I thought some of the earlier 69 blocks had the complete vin stamped on them. Believe there was talk of that here on FABO sometime ago.
I would disagree. The factory stamps were hand hammered. Everytime the stamp was hit it makes another impression. I have seen a lot that look like this. I see at least a double imprint on allmost all of the characters. The BH letters are not a factory stamp. It is a 69 block that someone restamped. Could be the number of the car they had it in. Kim
I think he's referring to the complete vin being stamped not just the last 8 as is more rule of thumbI would disagree. The factory stamps were hand hammered. Cast in 6/25/68 (or 8/25/68) and machined and built in 12/27/68. That's almost the middle of the production year. They started stamping blocks in mid year of 68 and all 69's had full vin stamp right? Or is that all hearsay?I think he's referring to the complete vin being stamped not just the last 7 as is more rule of thumb
Just think of how screwed up stampings would be if all of a sudden you had a stamp with 13 characters. Screwed up like this one is.Cast in 6/25/68 (or 8/25/68) and machined and built in 12/27/68. That's almost the middle of the production year. They started stamping blocks in mid year of 68 and all 69's had full vin stamp right? Or is that all hearsay?
Not sure if he would know that. This is what I have found, Full vins definitely from January 1 1968 to December 31 1968 on blocksI’ve never seen a complete vin on a block. Maybe @Alaskan_TA can shed more light on this. Kim
lol, it's a mopar, consistent inconsistencies. Here's mine cast Dec.'68Cast in 6/25/68 (or 8/25/68) and machined and built in 12/27/68. That's almost the middle of the production year. They started stamping blocks in mid year of 68 and all 69's had full vin stamp right? Or is that all hearsay?
it's all your's, my bad.is this a part for sale or a discussion forum?
It’s not by casting date.
no problemit's all your's, my bad.
Post 11 and @davescuda is quite knowledgeable. Is whole vin supposed to be stamped for all body lines across the board or only from a certain plant? All engines? I’ve worked on hundreds of engines and have never seen this. School me. Kim
I'm lost then. Jan 1 '68 to Dec 31 '68 based on what? It’s not by casting date.
Date on your pad for big blocks and under the drivers head on the front of the block on small blocks. From my researchI'm lost then. Jan 1 '68 to Dec 31 '68 based on what?
The casting date could be months before the machining/build date of the engine and weeks to months before the car was assembled (that's the information stamped on the block with the vin. You would have to match the vin with the build date on the fender tag or build sheet.I'm lost then. Jan 1 '68 to Dec 31 '68 based on what?
Ok, so my fender tag is dated 2/26/69 so it's out of that dated realm. ThanksThe casting date could be months before the machining/build date of the engine and weeks to months before the car was assembled (that's the information stamped on the block with the vin. You would have to match the vin with the build date on the fender tag or build sheet.
You block was probably cast in November or early Dec. of 68 and machined later. The guru's of the numbers game have seen engines built as close as a week before assembly but may be a month or so prior.Ok, so my fender tag is dated 2/26/69 so it's out of that dated realm. Thanks
Blocks and transmissions to be installed in a 1969 and later cars no matter the casting date or build date were required by federal law to have the complete vin stamped on them...mistakes were sometimes made but the complete vin is supposed to be stampedI thought some of the earlier 69 blocks had the complete vin stamped on them. Believe there was talk of that here on FABO sometime ago.
Starting in 1969 year model the complete vin was required by federal law to be stamped on the engine and trans. Not to be confused with casting dates or build dates...1969 year model...mistakes did happen and I have seen blank vin pads but it is supposed to be thereI think he's referring to the complete vin being stamped not just the last 8 as is more rule of thumb
