1969 GTS on going restoration

-
Got the GTS tail panel and 340 call outs done today. Lots of stripping and masking but they look good. I used SEM trim black paint and it looks bang on. I finished off with some OO steel wool to shine up the chrome and for 40 years old it looks great. Next I tackle the grill and head light bezels. I hope to get the car back from the body shop in a few months and can't wait to reassemble it.

So I talked to the body shop today and they are just masking it off for paint tonight or tomorrow. He had to fix some of the original body work but its all done right now. With any luck I'll be picking it up this weekend! I'm pumped and cant wait to see it in R4 red with the black GTS stripe. Could be a long few days as I've put a million hours and what seems like a million dollars. Red on black ....... I'm hoping it really pops!

The wait is killing me! They are wet sanding and polishing the paint before I get to put it together. My body man said he's really happy with it, super straight, not a hint of orange peal with the glasurit base clear. He said it will likely be ready for pick up monday. These few days will drag on!!!

Look on the bright side, it gives you all weekend to do a final prep on all of your parts.

No sun and I should have wiped down the tires but you get the idea. Again, thanks to all of you at FABO for all the help bringing the beast back from its slumber.

The ride turned out sweet. What was the process to paint the jambs and engine bay / trunk?

I did those myself with just a single stage urethane (Glasurit 22 line). Clean, Sand, Prime, Mask and paint. The exterior is Glasurit base clear. I have 3/4 od a gallon of the single stage left if anyone near me is going to R4 Red. Its about three hundred a gallon but I'll let ya have it cheap.

About this car - like George Jetson said, when he was a masked judge in the Miss Universe contest and saw the masked beauty (little did he know it was his wife Jane) "Uba, dooba, dooba".

Awesome job. Congrats!

Not sure with the exterior but the 22 line is single stage. I used the 22 line for the trunk, door jambs, engine bay and parts of the car not as exposed to the elements. I can check on the clear for you if you like.

Interior is DONE! If I never install another headliner it will be too soon. I'm convinced viagra couldn't get all the wrinkles out ...... what a pain.
