1971 Dodge Demon Sold for $126,500 on Mecum

-
That's the Demon I took pics of and posted last Sunday after I saw it there. It was very nice but a quick glance showed it had some purple-anodized carb on it. Definitely not a Thermoquad so not original at all.

Interesting that it sold that high as someone must have really wanted it. As shown in the pic below, they had a sign on it with an estimated sales price of $125k-$150k so they nailed that. (Although I didn't really understand what it sold for in the video.)

As for fees, the buyer pays 10% (of the sales price) to Mecum and the seller pays 10% plus the standard fee of $500-$1500 depending on the day and whether a Reserve was in effect or not. Very nice car and a lot of $$.

Two things I see wrong. 71 Demons never came with white bucket seat interior and 4 spd with option code C16, I doubt that. So I would be cautious of the Data plate and the broadcast sheet numbers. They definitely had to be made. If your going to clone a car at least be honest and don't make up a new Data plate and broadcast sheet. Where is the eyebrows and hood chrome. Those are the type of cars I would love to see in person and ruin their day.

An older couple bought this car on line at Mecum. Advertised as a Hemi Challenger with original lime green color paint. It came here for me to get it running and no brakes when delivered. The whole interior is Rattle canned white and black even the carpet. Car was original 318 , Green with green interior. Trans was from a 65 dodge. rear and suspension were shot, K-frame and frame was bent, And it didn't come with a drivers side window and it rained in during transport. They paid 48,000. Some people just have more money then brains or just don't have a clue on what they are buying. Never trust that bright shiny paint with white interior.

Did anybody say fender tag?? Here it is as I "just so happened" to take a pic of it last Sunday.

Although my pic is clear, it looks like we lose too much resolution when it gets uploaded. So here's what the tag reads if you're standing by the driver's fender looking at it:
VGW V8W EN1
J45 M21 M43 N41 N42 R11
FC7 G B51 G16 G55 H31
FC7 M6X9 TX9 S24 B09133
E55 D32 LM29 H1B 154952

I don't think I've seen that single digit G listed before.

If you crop your picture down to just the fender tag and rotate it 90° it will probably be legible on the board.

Not that I don’t trust your translation!

I thought there was another thread where guy claimed he restored it for a customer and interior got changed from black to white, was an automatic converted to 4 spd, scoops and rear wing added. Guy said he make those changes during restoration because thats what customer wanted. Car looks like good restoration to me in the pictures.

That’s what the fender tag says, 727 and black interior bucket seats. Hood pins but no scoops or wing.
