1) What's the difference between a 1971 Demon and a 1971 Dart Demon? I see manufacturers brochures, magazine ads, and owners manuals that seem to have two different names for the same car.
2) Are 1971 Dart grilles the same as 1971 Demon grilles? They look very similar.

1) They are darts. That's the first digit of the vin... "L"
2) Yes, same
Agreed.
The Demon was only available in 1971 and 1972, and from 1973 to 1976 there was a name change to Dart Sport.
The Demon was basically a Duster body with a different tail light panel (and tail lights of course) and a Dart front clip (the bolt on pieces only) the rest was the same.
The same goes for Dart Sports.
On the Demons, the badges on the inside upper door frame said ''Demon'' instead of ''Duster''.
Other than that and obviously the V.I.N., they were identical.
The grilles were identical to the regular Dart of each year, with the exception of the 1971 Demon Sizzler, which if it was ordered with a high impact color, the main part of the grille was body colored.
So, yes, it's pretty straight forward to clone a Duster into a Demon, and many people have done it.
But a look at the V.I.N. will tell you easily if it's a real Demon...
And the V.I.N. would start with LL29(engine code)1 or 2 (for the year) (plant code) then the sequential 6 digit number the car was assigned.
A 340 Demon only would be (as an example) LM29H1B123456 for a '71 and a '72 would be LM29H2B123456
All other Demons would be LL29(engine code B,C, or G for B=198 slant six, C=225 slant 6, or G= 318).
I hope this helps...

Ok, thanks everyone for the information. So to reiterate,

Demon and Dart Demon are the same, although manufacturers literature called them different names.

And the 1971 Dart and Demon grilles are the same, although Demon grilles are more expensive to buy.
