oook my duster is beautiful... the engine is powerful ONE problem though....

NO I DONT WANT A HOLLY OR ELDER!

don't suggest it either if you dare suggest it.. Go-2-H3ll !
LOL I think that gets my point across.. I want to fix my 4bbl carter carb on top.. I rebuilt the thing 3 times now and same thing over and over

it stumbles... it loads up it never floods though but I can't get the carb right.. I can't even get it to choke right

I really need a good carb man to see this...

where do all my vacuum lines go...?
what do I bend?
where do I locate all this stuff? the thing doesn't preform right it.... doesn't kick in correctly either

Buy a Holley.........

:-$

OK, OK.......

First, does it have a vacuum choke pull off?
What does the choke do?
Does it make a difference if you screw the idle mixture screws all the way in?
Did you set the floats correctly.

Give us a better description of what it actually does.

Then me, and a few other carter guys can help.

yes yes yes to all of those.... but the vacuum aint pullin the choke pull back btw it is cammed up and bored out(engine)

Have you tested the choke pull off and vacuum advance? Is there very much play in the throttle shaft?

How are the spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor? Have you checked the timing? I couldn't even begin to tell you how many times someone came to me with "carb problems" to only find out it was ignition.

You answered yes to Dodgeboy's question of what does the choke do?????

keep playin with it till ya git it right, thermoquads when they are right are awesome....down in the well there are two pieces epoxied to the thing....they need to be gotten off and re epoxied for starters.......pull the idle mixture screws one at a time keeping the engine running then run her up a bit and hand choke the carb then replace the idle mixture screw then do the other side......counting the turns out start at 2 and a 1/2 then if it idles and sounds good break out the vacume gauge and keep the turns equal....thermoquad is a god carb but you might as well disect one and learn it's circuits and how it works and go from there or find a thermoquad guru

You need to make sure the choke pot is working.

Is the choke not setting or opening? Which one, or both?

As far as loading up, pull one of the little metering rod doors off while it is idling, and see if the needle is bouncing as it lopes. If it is, there's your flood issue.

PM member Demon Sizzler, He builds thermoquads and has done a few for me.

PS, The edelbrock carbs are carters/

It will be a little tricky if the engine has low vacuum to get things perfect if it's a Thermoquad, and the question of the carb's condition (throttle shafts especially) is important to answer honestly. You will need tuning parts beyond the factory stuff, so the "talk to Demonsizzler" is a good idea. Also, you need to go into specifics regarding the timing setup. You always setup timing first. Then the carb. So give us as much detail as you can about the engine build, then tell us what the timing curve is on it. First things first.
