1972 Dodge Colt

-
Got back on the Colt today, been going back and forth with the Dart.
I dialed in another Weber jet setting using a great online tool.
It would have been easy if I was only changing jets, but I changed the chokes.
That meant heat shield, trumpets, throttle bracket, venturi, etc......
And the third carb, last barrel was not interested in coming apart.
Why is it always the last thing you need to do that gives you issues?

Gathering parts for the Colt.
I bought some turndown pipes in 2019 for the headers.
Just looked a couple more for the y collector and the price is almost double.
At this rate it won't matter if we have cars to work on, we won't be able to buy the parts.
Steering wheel switch and cord for the 2 -Step is $60.
Simple switch and cord.

Oh well I will be dead and gone soon enough, might as well burn through all I have.

I have re-thought using the Line Lock switch for the 2 Step.
I purchased a Summit micro-switch and cable.

Had to open up the smallest hole on my old wheel.

Then had to move the Tach, Shift Light, O2 Gage cluster back about an inch.

I think this will help me till I move it to the clutch pedal. Maybe.....

Started working on the header collector extension.
Using a flow master 2 into 1 Y Pipe.
It looks to be about 21 inches from the collectors to the merge point.
Going to be a good bit o work, I hope it shows some improvement.

Got one pipe from the back header into the Y Pipe.
Second one will be tougher.

I removed the ladder bars to see if I could add a little pinon angle.
The bars were not the same length, had to do some thinking about what was going on.
Pinion angle was 5 when I started and 6 after some adjustments.
I hope a little more angle might help the rear rise.

Now to remove the shocks and change the settings on them.

Had to fix my doggone Lincoln welding helmet.
My auto darkening lens stopped working.
Early Viking models had internal batteries that were supposed to charge with the solar cell.
So if you weld every day, it's all good.
Weld every 6 months or so and leave your helmet in the dark and guess what?
The batteries go bad.
Had to cut it open, solder two battery holders to the circuit board and then put it back together.
Lots of work for something they figured out was a bad idea.
Helmets are 200 to 400 bucks, I can buy a few parts for that coin.
$10 bucks with shipping.

I remember running Alan Patterson back yrs and yrs ago , at Tulsa, I had to spot him a good bit , (don't remember how much now) , caught him in second gear , passed him hard, lost hi gear in the torqueflite , he went back around me before the finish line ...just my luck !

think he won the championship that year...

Lookin' good & sounds great Stan, I'm crossin' My fingers for Ya', can't wait to see how she runs!!!
Jim K6

Sounds strong, Stan! Have you played around any to tell if it's going to launch harder?

I bailed on Mokan, weather just to iffy for a 12 hour tow up and back.
I will get over to Xtreme as soon as I see a clear sky.

No Rusty, not tested.
