1972 Duster Build

-
Just picked up all new front wheel bearings and seals... Hope to get the hubs and rotors on soon! One step closer to making it a roller again.

Bummed. The donor rims I got from my buddy's mustang won't fit the front hubs. The center bore is to small for the Aspen hubs. Guess I'm on the look out for some new donors I can use until I can figure out which wheels and tires I'm going to use permanently... At least the ones I have will fit the 8.8 rearend.

Nothing makes a car look sweeter than attention to detail. - Looks great so far. - Looking forward to seeing more.

Jhenry. You said you got a couple cans of sassy green paint. Do you thing its possible to paint part of a engine compartment with those cans? Would it come out right?

Absolutely. I just might be doing exactly that on my engine bay. I got it from Automotive Touch Up. It's a but pricey but the do factory matched automotive colors. They have all the color codes on their site for each year and make. I'm using the 71 Plymouth Sassy Grass. They also sell the paint by the quart, gallon, and touch up pen. Premixed and ready to shoot.

Some local paint shops will put it in spray cans also but it can be even more pricey...

They have some videos and FAQ's on blending/feathering to the original paint too.

Subscribed. Keep this pace and you'll be driving it in no time. Nice attention to detail and workmanship. My project has been beset with delays due to outside factors lately,:angry4:, so I'm living my build vicariously through threads like yours.

I'm trying to keep the pace... My boy would love it if I could drive him to school on his first day as a freshman but I'm not sure I can make it by this July. Things are more than likely going to slow down a bit until daylight savings changes, too dark to work when I get home so most of my time is on the weekends. Lacrosse season is now in full swing and this weekend is my son's first game, all weekend at a tournament 3 hours from home! Family first...

Didn't get much time this weekend to do a lot of work. We had three LaCrosse games that took priority over the car. I did get a little time yesterday to pack the bearings and install the front hubs. And a few hours of shop time to work on cutting off the spring hangers and shock mounts from the 8.8 rear. Getting it ready to be shortened by three inches in the near future.

Man now that I've seen this I absolutely have to go back and do the same on mine. We're pretty much at the same point. I'm doing a disk brake and 318 swap in my 73 Sport as well.

This just looks terrible in comparison to yours:

Thanks, There ain't nothing terrible about that! I wish I had tubular control arms in my budget!
You got a build thread started? I'd like to see how you're doing yours. I'm struggling right now cause there's so much missing on mine and so much to do, I get distracted and want to get started on the next part. It's hard to focus, it's like playing chess, always thinking about your next move. I'm really trying to stay on a budget and your missing good wheels and tires, no interior at all, an unfinished cage and tubs, no seats, an engine that needs to be gone through, and all the body work still needing to be done... It feels overwhelming.

I hear ya. I'm doing a slant 6 to 318 swap, front end rebuild, disk brake swap, new floor pans, custom dash cluster and painting the interior trim/dash black. Got everything going and a few more things on the wishlist. I get impatient, want something done and then I start thinking of another thing to do haha. I was lucky to find a good donor car for $600. Build thread is here:

Went with the tubular because of the ball joint in the upper control arms were a nightmare for me. First the socket I ordered fell out of the box during shipping, then I found one of the donor control arms had the ball joint welded in. I grabbed one off my car and it was a match but the second ball joint just wouldn't budge. Those were $300 and had the bushings and ball joint pressed in ready to go. I'll probably sell the old arms and make half of that back.

Yeah, the ball joints were a bear!! I'm stripping everything from under the dash today and wire wheeling a bunch of surface rust. Decided I'm going to yank the dash completely out... Now to figure out how to get the windshield out. Never done one before. Oh, joy!

Pulled the heater box and dash plate and controls, drivers fresh air box, wiper control arms and started wire wheeling the floor pans. The pans look worse than they really are, had a few neighbor cats climbing in there and spraying. Dammit!!

Decided to pull the dash out. My trim on the windshield is off, what's the process for pulling the glass? Can you save the seal?

I was just looking at these shifters yesterday, we're gonna build the same car at this rate lol

I liked the profile of the Hammer better than some of the other shifters out there. Have a friend that might have an original console for me. Not sure if this one will work with it or not. Just might build a custom console to put it in. We shall see.

My grill has found it's new home in the Man Cave for the time being. Need to get some more Trim Black for a couple more coats later on.
