1972 Duster Project

Thanks....I’ll either show you a good way or the absolute opposite in this game. Lol
Not to change the subject, but I wish we still had quail around here, haven't seen or heard one in about 5-6 yrs >!!

You know I have often thought about hatching eggs and releasing them. I am sure fish and game would have a fit, but it’s the same way back home in PA with grouse.

Spent some time at shop cleaning and organizing. Blasted some more stuff including the trans mount. Should have taken a before. Ran out of time to paint. Next in line. Underhood wiring and tank...

Been waaaaay too busy lately. Very little progress by me on this since I left off, but after I prepped it for a color blend...that’s just what it got. Looks great in my opinion. I like the black top.

Sorry to the O.P. ------------I remember my dad raised 3 pair of quail in the barn when I was about 5 yrs old. We watched where they flew to,when he released them, there were covies there for about 20 years, but that was long ago .

Ok...weather coming in again. Moving on to get this ready to sell. Wife was my delivery rock today in getting the interior to the shop. Oh...and the motor is in the car!

Wife said the interior looked great. Have to address the sail panels. Picked up a new set but will need to match to headliner. P.O. painted it. Interior trim is all black now except dash and front door trim which will need finished. Then I can install soundproof. New carpet is already there as well. Picked up wiper pivot seals, steering column to firewall gasket, and new dash/window vents. That will get car pretty much done with what I will do up front. I can’t find a reasonable trunk well patch to save my life. Trying to keep the cost as low as I can on the car, but everything is expensive. Once it is moving I will get up on the rack and look to see what, if anything needs addressed in the rear frame rails. I spent time under there with the wire wheel already and it seemed like scaling from being a northern car at one point is all I was dealing with.

Got with Challenger Gary today for some stripes for the car. Belt molding stays. Going with black ladder bar stripe on hood and black tail panel.

Getting wired now. Radiator was shot so that needs replaced. Not looking forward to my next time off as it will be getting after replacing the dash cap and doing wiper pivot seals and dash vent replacement. Then interior paint...and stuff

Ok. New radiator in, running. Needs some little stuff done under the hood. Brake lines were shot, all new now. Cleaned up trunk floor and patched. Addressed some rust near tail panel. More random things to do. Will have to find a new front bumper or the future owner can deal with that.

Next motor on the way to machine shop. 76 440....a little more cam in it than usual picked up an XE275HL from comp cam with matching springs, lifters, and timing chain. Milodon pan with windage tray and some stock bore KB237 10:1 pistons with some 452 heads...at last that is what the online calc says.

Maiden voyage was a fail. New brake lines installed front to back and bled. It goes and runs smooth, but stopped like ****. Reason being that the shoes/pad broke off on the rear drums. Parts ordered and we should be good to go. Rust in rear repaired. Will need a bit of paint to clean up. All but decided to bring the paint color inside and then finish. New radiator keeping it cool.

Ok. She is down on all fours again. Running and driving well. Almost time to paint tail panel and finish interior. Redo the hood and get the stripes on it. I think I am going to pull front window and reseal. Considering my plan is to sell this car....why stop now! Got a new choke to help her warm up a bit easier. Check out the sweet little dual exhaust!

Made some progress on grille. Dremel, parts grille, epoxy. Collected all trim to clean and replace. Started the bezels as well. One epoxy hardens I will go back and clean up the repaint the grille. The grille that was in the car nearly came apart as I removed trim.

Finished. Just need to add some detail to emblem. One more car in the bay before it comes back in to finish. Helped my buddy a bit plumbing his ride...mostly leaned on the fender and handed him ****.

Well...she lives. Gets a new windshield tomorrow and seatbelts installed then on the road. Still need to paint the trunk and get new stripe on hood and tail panel.

I’ll be honest, car looks great for the time I have had to put into it. Needs some serious spit and polish. Got a set of arm rests for the door, however they are not the small 72 and down, they are the big ones. Damnit...

Still need to work the headliner and some odds and ends.
