1974 Dart Police Sedan - A day in the life

-
A couple months back a '75 Dart came into the P-A-P in Lynnwood, WA...E44-code cop car (E68 is 360). Really trashed, but me and a buddy got the suspension, brakes, the data tag, the radio delete plate (W/3 holes), the defogger, the alternator wiring (goes through firewall w/o using the bulkhead connector), the passenger door mirror, etc. Rare finds!

6T9 V-100,
Did you get the Instrument Cluster, Spotlights and Mounts by chance??? Let me know.

Later,
Bruce B.

PS: Keepin' the seat waggin! Who's Kirkey?

OK, pour gas in the carb - It runs for a min. Very little gas showing in the filter. Yesterday it ran for 15 min. on gas tank! AAARRRRGGGGHHHH! Killed the battery. Try again tommorow.

Later,
Bruce B.

Unfortunately, the car was hammered- the spotlight was missing the handle, the headlight switch was hanging below the dash, the d/s floor was rotted to the point that the torsion bar was rubbing on the reminants:sad1:, and everything else that was worth anything we took and sold off on craigslist and to friends. I did keep the inner fender data tag and I can send that to you if you'd like (I have a wall of license plates, automotive stickers, and emblems...it'll end up there if you don't want it Bob).

Bruce- thanks for the address (sorry about calling you Bob) and the data tag will be in the mail tomorrow.

Just wanted to touch base with everyone. I am still alive and kickin'. I have a new Phone number (Thanks to all that have helped me in this lousy time for me! Bless You!). Please email me and I will send it to you. I have no long distance service on it so you will need to call me. Also, I will try to get in the FABO chat room in the evenings and you can add me on Yahoo: [email protected].

Later,
Bruce B.

OK Then!

Finally got it!
Dropped the Gas Tank, cleaned it out, Cleaned up the Sending Unit. Blew a bunch more crap outta the Fuel Line again...... Put it all back together.... No Go!! Now the Fuel Pump is dead. Replaced the Fuel Pump..... TAA DAA! NOW it's pickin' up Gas and running sweet. ARGH!!!!!
(PS: Gas Gauge is working now too)

Later,
Bruce B.

Gas gauge quit again.... time to put the new sending unit in I guess. It is still overheating when ya hit the highway though. Gonna try a new water pump and see what happens.

Later for now,
Bruce B.

my slant six duster was overheating on the highway. the rad was blocked up. it was ok for a while and would do it after a few trips. id flush every 3 or 4 times i drove it and black funk just kept coming out, finally i pulled the pipe plug out of the block on the passenger side and i had to hammer a screw driver through this black sandy chunk of crap. i flushed water through every hole i could and it seems to be good now. check it out, could be your problem.

I seen a radio in there, didn't you say it was a radio delete car???

It is/was radio delete and going back to that.
And thanks jamesdart.... goin' for the plug next!

Later,
Bruce B.

Well,
Got a lot figured out and fixed this past week!
The cooling issue turned out to be a clogged Radiator. Had it rodded out and Taa Daa! Cooling fine now. Also put a new Thermostat, Water Pump, Radiator Cap, Upper, Lower, both heater, and Transfer Hoses on.

This almost closes the Cooling System issues out, just the new Heater Core and Anti Freeze to put in and ready for the cold weather.

Later,
Bruce B.

PS: Also put in the new Gas Tank Sending Unit too; Gauge working great now.

End of 2009 update: Heater Core is in and cookin'! got the Neutral safety/Reverse light harness in and working. Still looking for an unbroken Tag Light Lense...... Happy New Year everybody!!!!!

Later,
Bruce B.

OK then.....
I found a set of Drip Rail Corners!! I still need a better Tag Light Lense/Housing though. She is running pretty good but she has an ominus rumbling in the Rear End. I am gonna replace the Outer Axle Bearings 1st and see if that is it. Nothing else new for now.

Later,
Bruce B.

Well.....
Here we are at Waggin's place in Florida!
This was her 1st real road trip since I bought her.
Absolutly no problems,
Gonna have to get the Cruise Control in before the next trip though as she wants to cruise at 80-85 MPH!

Now, since we got here she has lost her Munched up, Bad Hinges, and Seal-less Doors....

Well.... Front Bearings sounded bad to Waggin.......
Took them apart and they were in need of repacking. Also the Passenger side Outer Race was spun. Waggin peened it to fix as good as could be, I repacked all the Bearings.
I need a new Spindle and Hub....UGH! I would rather just convert to Disc Brakes whille swapping the Spindle.... Anybody got a set of Spindles, Dust Shields, Caliper Mounts, and Proportioning Valve for sale? PM me if you do. I already have a set of Rotors and Calipers out in the barn.

This marks the end of this bit of work on my '74 Dart PD.
Time to head back home.

I cannot begin to tell everybody what a great guy Waggin is!!!

:notworth: TY TY TY Waggin! :notworth:

If you have trouble getting the material for the interior, you may try contacting some local upholstery shops here in metro Phoenix. Many shops did, and still do repair work for the PDs here in the Valley & someone may have some of that pattern left.

Thanks for the info hemicop!
The Seatcovers are gonna have to wait for some time though. I am just gonna try and find a set of aftermarket Slipcovers for now. I am however going to go ahead and repair the Seat Springs while I have the Seats out to POR-15 the Floors and put the new Vinyl Floor Coverings in! I am tired of sitting on the Floor! LOL

I still want to find a Certified Speedometer for her but have been told they were only available in 140 MPH in the '76 A38 A Bodies. UGH. Maybe I can find one of those 200 KPH Speedometers instead. That would be a great conversation piece for her.

Later,
Bruce B.

The trip home.....

Had Fuel Filter issues, Stopped and bought a new one... problem solved.
The rest of the trip home went without issues.
Now we have our first road trip under our belts!
645 Miles round trip.

Bruce B.
