1974 Plymouth duster 360 fender tag decode.

Yup, it’s tough looking up info on these. Especially for a young guy not being there for the time period.
Don't let that stop you. Keep plugging away with your antique. Feel free to PM me with any questions. No insult will be taken. We need more young people to keep our hobby going. Paul.

Much appreciated sir, the paint could not be saved unfortunately, too many “dead” spots…..so it’s getting a full repaint and I’ll have the car back in a month. Everything is correct on this car, it’s originality is unbelievable! I’m very excited for it to be back. I’ll post photos when done!

Duster45- they sell little option code books to decode everything. Just google it. By the way, the 74 360 cars were the best. They had many benefits over earlier cars. I believe that car is one of 2900 built. The b5 blue is stunning too! Some of the pluses are: Electronic ignition, revised front suspension-bigger spindles with disc brakes-big bolt patten wheels, support beams in the front doors and seat belts that go across your body and retract-safety, factory front sway bar, big thermoquad 4bbl 850cfm ect. You'll love it

That’s a very good idea, The iPhone has made me very dependent on it. I would actually highly enjoy a couple decoding books. Thank you!

Mymopar.com is a great free reference for your fender tag and build sheet info. Give 'em a look.

i would like to weigh in on this. i have a completely original 74 duster 360 and my tag has the N41 code and my car still wears the original A Body tips it came new with. i have seen other sites that say the code just means Dual exhaust

'74 was the last year before the dreaded catalytic converters, too. The Feds threatened to come down hard on anybody messing with the exhaust systems on '75 and later.

There is some possibility that the '75 and '76 E58 non-CA motors didn't have single exhaust and cats.

Here is the factory offerings for '75 - https://www.hamtramck-historical.co...DataBook/1975/75-1-Dodge-engineering_0004.jpg

Note that in both MY, there was a federal version of the E58 with a performance cam and listed as having dual exhaust.

I thought maybe it was a mistake, but found this post that makes me wonder.

'75-76 Dart Sport 360, why hp so high?

The power was down on them, based on the published ratings. But it is possible that the cars outside of CA still had duals and no cat.

I believe part of the question is dual exhaust with Chrome tips.

It appears that only option N91 on a 318 2 bbl California only, it had an air pump instead of a cat. I've never seen one on the east coast or Washington state, but never say never with Mother Mopar.

The build sheet on my 1970 Swinger 340 has both N41 and N42, same as the fender tag. It has the factory chrome tips. I know it's a different year, but throwing it out there.

Wow That seems unique! Would you post that part of the fender tag?

We recently moved across the country, and after hearing horror stories, I removed the fender tag and put it in one of my safes. I haven't found it yet, but heres the build sheet.

I could be wrong about this, but seems like I have heard that not everything got onto the fender tag every time. Makes sense than N41 would since it was part of the 360 package, but maybe not the N42 tips if it was an option?

Mine doesn’t have tips, so I’m not help beyond the N41 dual exhaust.

I love KB5

Let's see it.

From what I've read, all 1970 Swinger 340's came with chrome tips. Mine also has painted wheels with dog dish caps, and V88, which is the bumble bee stripe delete. It's also a factory air car, code H51. It spent most of it's time in eastern Oregon and eastern Washington in the desert.

Found it, N41 and N42 on the fender tag. H51 is factory A/C. I've been told it's a very rare option on 340 cars.
