Hi everyone. I am on here to ask if anyone knows where to find stroker camshafts for 1990s 360LAs. And if there's any camshaft out of other engine that would fit a 360. Thanks and have a great day

Any 318/340/360 cam will work...

That's a great block.. Roller cam LA block. I am using one in my car but am switching to solid roller..

Also.. there's not such thing as a stroker cam... if you are looking for a performance cam, post the engine specs, gear.. converter.. type of driving/performance you want and 30 people will argue over a cam for you..

Oh sorry I meant crankshaft

ahhh that's very different :)

Any stroker for the 360 would have to be an offset ground 360 crank.. or just order a stroker kit (which is what i'm doing) I would go with hughes or CNC... either way is not cheap...

Ok. Thank you. Im trying to do a cheaper build but still make decent power. Besides a cam what would you suggest for maximum power gain

well.. you can't get max power gain and cheap.... it all comes down to budget. If it's budget stay 360, get heads and a cam/intake.. you will still be 2500-3000 or more depending which way you go... A cam alone would help and be the cheapest route..

I just looked at cnc rotating assemblies. Would you suggest dish or flathead pistons. I know flatheads will get better compression and dishes will get more displacement but I dont know which one would be more beneficial

It depends on your heads... and what head gaskets you will use.. you will probably want dished but i don't know what you are using.

Also... is your block already .030 over? does it need machining? stuff like that matters a lot.. my block is going to be in the machine shop for 6 months....

sooo gotta plan ahead....

My engine has 70k miles on it and it looks fine. I probably won't bring it too a machine shop unless im going to bore it out for more displacement

I have stock heads right now but if I get a new rotating assembly I'll probably get edelbrock rpm heads

A stock stroke 360 is capable of exceeding 500HP with good heads. What are your goals for power?

so.. to be honest.. by the time you get a block machined, buy a stroker kit.. heads, cam, intake.. all the ****.... buy a blueprint stroker that is done already... at this point i wish i had :)

Find a machine shop local to you, (you’re going to need one anyway) and ask them to mentor you through the build. Let them make important decisions and ask them to walk you through the process of building an engine.

Whatever I can get for a decent price right now I'd be fine with 350 but I'd like to get as much as possible in the long run
define a decent price

in building a motor (or for power) budget is everything.

speed costs money, how fast do you want to go?

Im thinking roughly 350-400

are you missing a zero there?

i don't know what you're starting with, but that gets you a used 4bbl intake and carb.

if you already have that, then you get a cam and the associated bits for install... mayyybe some springs, for that kind of money.

what's your current status?

I stuck with the 3.58" over a 4" stroke for lower piston speed.
Get this book.

Read it before you make any decisions. Do the math yourself, and make your decisions on how much performance you can afford.
I also recommend Physics for Gearheads.

Thats my goal horse power. I have $350 in gaskets right now. My current status in bone stock. I have the cylinder heads off and am about to take the oil pan off. Im still in highschool so I dont have a very big budget. Im thinking 4k tops but if I can make 350hp for less than that I'll just go with that.

If that’s horsepower, go get a 360 magnum from the junkyard, stick a 220ish cam in it and an rpm airgap intake with a 750dp carb. Cheap, easy, makes your hp goal and you can do it yourself in a weekend
Im not huge into engine swaps. If I were to get a different e gine it would be a cummins

you can make that falling out of bed with just the bits that @TT5.9mag outlined above.

if you want to get saucy, spring for some heads-- which, being a magnum you'll likely need to do anyway.

then down the line if you want to stroke it, you'll already have the heads cooking so you can just jam out.
