I need your help ladies and gentlemen! We are looking at buying a used 2008 Dodge Durango for my wife to drive. I want a Hemi one but we can't find any used ones, but there are plenty of 4.7 V-8 ones, most have the "Flex-Fuel" option on them. Are these engines any good? I would like to do some light towing with it, at the most my 1966 Valiant on a car trailer, otherwise, this will be used as a daily commuter for my wife. Is the 4.7 engine able to meet my needs? I am not too worried about fuel mileage, just the towing and reliability. We found several nice used 08 models with 18,000-25,000 miles on them for around $15,000, pretty decent I think. Thanks for your help!! :toothy10:

I HAVN'T HEARD OF ANY CONCERNS. I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL WITH A 100K + ON THEM. I THINK THE '08 GOT A BOOST ON POWER ( 285HP VS 235HP). iT SHOULD DO WHAT YOU WANT. I AM LOOKING FOR A 2005 & LATER JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE, I WOULD TAKE ONE WITH THE 4.7 ENGINE.

i will never own a flex fuel. to run the e85 properly you need higher compression and it burns way hotter. there is no good way to get good from both. just my $.02. never seen it for sure but my anto teacher says the same and he has looked into it more.

I had an 02 dodge 4x4 w/ the 4.7. I towed a 27 ft 5th wheel all over ny state w/ it up hill and flat land around 11mpG towing...reg 13 up and down hills....19 on the flat land MPG...The only thing w/ the engine I didn;t like was they are notted for cracking heads..mine did right when I got it, went through a ton of coolant..I bought it used had 70,000 miles on it...Other than that had plenty of power and liked to rev to the moon..Here is the pic of camper, the camper weight was 4,700 empty loaded 5000 of so...I would buy another

My boss has a 4.7 in his 1500. No problems in 35000 miles but he says the mileage isnt as good when he runs E-85 and even with the price difference down here, it isnt worth buying.

I have a 2004 durango with the hemi (non-mds),on the highway I get about 19 and in town it is about 13. I drove a 04 with a 4.7 for a weekend before I bought the one with the hemi and the 4.7 actually got worse fuel mileage. My personal opinion is to buy one with the hemi, mine pulls my duster on the car trailer very good.
