It doesn't look like my AMX is going to sell because I am not going to give it away too many nice parts on it for that. I am contemplating keeping both cars the AMX and the Dakota. What are the thoughts on my Ram truck pulling a small stacker trailer in goose neck configuration? Do you think it's enough truck? I have pulled my 34' enclosed trailer with a 20' Challenger and my AMX in the trailer. But I don't have enough room left for my golf cart. I'm not in good enough shape medically to walk around at the races. With the golf cart and the extra wind resistance. I'm wondering if I have enough truck. I love my truck and I'd like to keep it. I really don't want to have to get another one.

You should be fine. Don't put a programer on it. We are getting a lot of dealer work from the valve seats falling out of the new 6.7's . They made the outside diameter smaller to save money and they fall out after a hard pull. Let the truck idle before shutting it off. The seats cool faster then the head and the open valves let the seat fall. Steve is replacing them with the larger diameter seats and a greater press fit.

Why a golf cart? There are plenty of pit bikes made these days that don't take up much room, even an electric shiftless model is good enough at the track...

I'm poor, I walk. My 06 2500 pulls everything I've ever needed, the other thing is there's much less to mess up and things are easier to fix on the older pick ups. Definitely don't sell the AMX, that car is badass .

Ford SD F350 for heavy towing.
3/4 tons are for hauling campers, boats and firewood

I have sciatica so I bring a small golf cart with me all the time. It is a Cricket. They make them in Florida. Only about 3'4" wide.
Fits in front of the car in my 24' trailer. I have ramps so I can drive it in/out the side door. Very handy!

What years have the valve seats falling out? I have a 2022 with 30,000 miles on it.

I called the shop . It started with the trucks that had DEF. Steve said he had had them up to 2019. And actually has 4 heads there right now from Reagle Dodge. He told me he hasn't had any with seats falling out of the 2020 and newer after they went to roller cams. He just got a complete 2022 engine in for what they said is a rod knock. It had a broken roller lifter that metal went through the whole engine. Cummins are not what they use to be.

We have two 2005 5.9 G56 trucks with programers we bought new . They run like old big blocks . One had and engine go bad due to a BD exhaust brake. When you close the exhaust it pushes the oil out the breather. We were towing and excavator and a skid loader up to NY on a 40 foot goose neck. Pulled in for diesel and checked the oil . Empty. Filled it Finished the trip and drove it home. The next day he started it and the bearings were making noise.

The other single wheel truck is a toy. Always driven like we stole it, On its Third G56. We had many different years the best durable were the 92-93. I wish I would have never sold them . We put a common rail in a 93 that was also a fun truck.

If you need info on cummins call him at the machine shop. He builds a lot tof them for Dealers and pulling trucks. SK Machine | Danielsville PA

Have you posted it on the amc forums

The AMC Forum

It’s an ok group a lot like this one. I sold my AMX along with the entire race operation on there for a substantial amount. Point being there are buyers over there.

Thanks for the info!

Would it pull it? Probably…. In my situation the closest track being 2hrs away (favored track 5hrs) and 3500-4000 elevation change and common wind I’d be leaning towards a 3500 dually minimum…. preferably 4500/5500. I’m not going to lie…. I like to “over truck” my combos.
Fwiw the 14-18 Ram CTDs are my favorite. Seem to have way fewer issues than the 19+ and still mechanical cam that has proven worry free. Just got back from our 3200 mile round trip. Averaged 10 mpg with our 3500 (not afraid to maintain speed limit… and that’s 75+). Iirc the rating for this truck was 16,000 max trailer weight so we are well below that. Also has a nice 4085lb payload rating. Only 48k miles on it. Sits in the garage until the toys need moved.

I am not sure how far you plan to pull a goose neck stacker, but here's my take on it.

The truck has the power to do the job without question, however being only a single rear wheel is an issue I see.

Going to a dually setup allows for a lot more stability and peace of mind for load capacity.

I have a goose neck in my F450 Dually, but if I ever wanted to pull anything other than a horse trailer I would switch over to a 5th wheel plate.

Having been in the trucking business in the past I tend to like trucks that have more load capacity and definitely brake size than most 3/4 - 1 ton trucks can offer.

Will your truck pull it? Yes

Should you pull it? Only you can answer that.
