Hello there, I need some advice.

I am rebuilding my 273 engine.
Standard pistons with +010 rings.
Comp Cam CL20-221-3 ( Duration 256int./268exh. , Lift 0.447 int./0.455exh.) with hydrraulic lifters.
Original heads.

I am trying to get valve spring pressure close to 85 lb with the .015 and .030 shims.

Should I get over or under 85lb., I can play with those shims a little?

Please give your comments, I know that there is more experience than what I have.

Which springs are you using? Comp recommends 901's and the cam card says stock springs can't be used.

Well, I have choosen Crower springs 68305X1, once pressure measurement shows out only 60-65lbs on height 1,64" I desided to put some shims under the spring.

hi, the original spring pressures are . 103 # @ 1.62 184 # @ 1.31. for 235 /273.if you put 65 # springs in, will not RPM. the comp 901 is very close to same.

perfacar, thanks for your info.
I will update my measured/installed result later on.

hi, If you shim, have to measure coil bind. with comp or stock spring , shouldn't have a problem with coil bind. just food for thought.
