There was a tread recently about 273 blocks with areas cast on the drivers side to clear power steering or manual steering boxes.
I can't find the tread anymore, but was there an answer about why they were cast that way?
I don't see 318 or 340 blocks having that feature.
I have a 65-69 cast block by casting number 2806030-3 that has the inverted "bumps".
Any thoughts?

Why

318s and 340s were never offered in the narrow chassis that required the clearance, Clarance.

But You know about Wilford Day cleaning Ford's clock repeatedly at Bonneville, right? Just sayin'..
and you can get 1000s of HP from a 2 cyl steam external combustion engine (or is it 4 cyl if it pushes on both sides of the piston???)

I just acquired a 2806030-3 engine with a 4 bbl. intake that has those cutouts. On the other side of the block is an upside down 0341. Any idea what that means?
