OK, here is one for ya. Not exactly my Dad, but..

My Father in law, now divorced, married this women named Nancy, ("Not Mom-in-law") who intro'd me to her dad and since I'm a car nut, hot rodder and basic go fast guy we had a instant click. Listening to him was great. An excellent guy and a very nice man was the top icing for this guy to say the least. His only advice to me was, "Stop playing with them small blocks and when your serious, about going fast, we'll talk." But chat on we did.

As my Father-in-laws wife (Not Mom-in-law) Nancy put it,
Quote:
"It wasn’t long before dad was barreling down the road in his ‘baby’ now equipped with this ‘baby Chrysler’.

As dad was driving over to see his buddies... Mike saw him coming around the corner and laughingly said... "Here comes Charlie Dodge!" That was it! The name stuck, Charlie ‘Dodge’ was born.

The Tasmanian Devil was one of Dad's favorite cartoon character's. He would laugh and joke about how he would appear and tear the road up. When the dust settled, there the Taz would be. With his hand over his mouth, a little burp would escape. "Opp's. Excuse me." Followed by a cute sideways grin... "How could you not love him?!"

I remember him telling this story.... Naming the car The Tasmanian Devil was perfect! It sure gave an interesting twist to watching cartoons with Dad...
Any old school guys remember that car?

Charlie is in the Hall of Fame of Drag Racing. The best story I heard was when he was a younger man, experimenting with the HEMI and the "New" fuel (Nitro), the town Police were kind enuff and (LOL) I'm sure curious enuff to act on this, close down the street's in the area so they could "TEST" the car.

"Tech Talk" was always a short talk, since it was really family day, the hobby would wait. And to be honest, 15 minutes of "Tech Talk" could have your head bound up for a few weeks if the topic was a weak one for you.

Others include working at Chrysler in there dyno room in the early days playing with turbo's on 4 cylinders. Racing around the country, setting up street grudge matches for money. And you bet it was big.

Sadly, he has passed. I never was able to get the funds together for a serious project. Something was certainly missed there. but the talk only kept my mind working and inquiring.

Just click Them;

He made a few Mag covers back in the day with the Pacers and himself.

Anybody remember A.J.Foyt? Dig this lil'fact;
Year; 1987 Charlie (56) helps complete the Oldsmobile Aerotech record setting car. (4 cylinder engine, 1000 hp ‘Powered by a highly turbo-charged version of the 2 liter Oldsmobile Quad 4 engine’) A.J. Foyt drove it to a closed course speed record (257.123 mph) setting two records - unlimited engine and under 2 liters (1998 cc).

I sure hope I can go to heaven and play with Charlie & his toys.

There, that outta keep ya busy for a few days.
