hey guys. am building a 318 with 360 heads.
my question /problem is i bought a 360 cast intake 1971 but the ports are different. not the fuel ports but the exhaust one that crosses over intake. the ports are on the head but not on the intake?
thought you could use any intake would work but guess not.
just pics down loaded of net.

see the half circle on head will not be covered by intake man. the gasket is the one to suit intake if that makes any sense.
so what number casting do i need to be the correct one to suit heads. guy bought this off has cpl more so may be able to swap.
thanks for any help.
cast # on manifold 8614025-1 date 11.15.71
heads are 4027596

...............The half circle does not get covered......that's how they are....u will need the fiber gaskets not the tin ones.....kim........

Like stated above, the half circle does not get covered.

Use fel-pro gaskets for intake as recommended.

What are you going to do for pistons?

Stock 318 pistons may end up under 8:1 compression with the 360 heads.

You are going to lose about 1.2 compression ratio by using the 360 heads on a 318? If you buy 10.5 compression pistons and put them in the 318 with the 360 heads, you will end up at 9.2 compression.

You need to get 340/360 intake gaskets - those are the right size for the ports. Also as was said - only the center of the croosove has flow through it. The area around it is a heat sink to keep the adjacent intake ports cooler.

The intake will work. The heads will cost you a little compression but if you spend 50 bucks and have them cut (milled) .040 it will run just fine.

Another low cost suggestion……. head gaskets in different thicknesses, this will help raise comp. One point not being mentioned………By keeping your comp. low, plenty of room for a bottle shot! A.K.A. :prayer: Nitrous Oxide :burnout:

hey guys thank you for answers.looking at that
head in pic can see gasket line below half circle
have the felpro gasket set and there is suppose
to be 5 diferent intake gaskets to choose from but threre is only
two like the ones in pic? and they have 318 size holes instead of 360 size.
kit is for a 318 so that make sense.
block is together.
have kb 399 pitons comp will be 9.5.1 mild cam , comp 260h
got a 600 holley carb with manifold may be able to chuck a kit at it,
havnt really decided on that one yet.
get some pics up shortly.

here a few pics o motor an bits so far

318 0.20 over /360 heads mild clean up.
remove casting flash etc 3 angle valve job
forged crank
comp 9.5.1
kb399 pistons zero deck
comp cams 260h
318 rods arp bolts
stock cast inlet rebuilt 600 holley ??
upgrade to alloy later
stock 360 ex man.
will upgrade to headers later.

has anyone got a good pic or diagram of all the plumbing from intake to water pump etc?

What are you looking for?

Where the heater hoses go?

What are the holes on the intake manifold for?

One heater hose goes to the water pump, the other goes to a fitting that goes in the intake manifold to the passenger side of the thermostat. The small hole near the thermostat is for the stock temp gauge sensor.

The hole in the front of the intake where the thermostat is goes to the bypass hose fitting on the water pump.

Good short block, with that and the 360 heads...you can run a lot more cam than that.
If you have the gears :)

hey krazy. yeh a diagram of where the heater/bypass and what ever else hooks up to it .and what they for. cheers.
lol just read your post again. missed that bottom bit. think that all i need but a pic be sweet. thanks

and hebrews yes could run much more but this aint a race car. just a cruizer. more looking for tourqe than speed. going in a fairly big car so want the low down grunt over revs. should have diff out this weekend so can figure what gears it has. cheers
