Sweet thats what I was hoping. Just picked up a 78 D100 and it has either an 85 or 86 318 in it.

Yep '85 to '91 318 roller engines. The good flat top pistons too and floating rods.

Well that just bummed me out, maybe. At least there is a chance.

One quick way to check if you have a 318 roller lifter engine is to pull out 1 pushrod and measure the length of it compared to a regular LA hydraulic flat tappet pushrod. The roller cam engines will have the shorter pushrods, to work with the taller roller lifters.

'85 to '91 318s did have the 302 closed chamber heads though.

The casting date is either 85 or 86. Having trouble telling if it is a 5 or 6. I'll check again but if nothing else I'll know when I pull the intake.
9:2 cr is great as I don't want to have to run premium fuel.

you can look down by the push rod and see the cross bones if its a roller,..ether way its got the spider mounts cast in lifter valley, spider hardware and lifters same as any magnum so itll be cheap and easy at the bone yard!

Yes, not all 318's 85 up are rollers. I got one from a 87 dipomat cop car that was the flat tappet. Disappointed to say the least! Block is drilled and tapped for the roller setup. Got the spider and dogbones from a blown 318 mag from my buddy.
