I need to pull the oil pump drive gear shaft due to my new dizzy key not lining up like it should, just need to skip a few teeth on the oil pump gear...

I've tried the putting a screw driver in the dizzy drive slot trick and cant get the gear to budge (ie ride up on the cam gear)...

any tricks?

what are my options now? drop the pan and oil pump and drive the shaft up and out?

The bottom of the shaft gets oil deposits on it and just turning the gear with a screwdriver in the slot won't do it. Take a coat hanger or welding rod and bend about a 1 inch L bend in the end. Put it into the distributor hole and on the driver's side put the hook under the gear. Pull up as you turn the gear. May have to do it several times as the gunk comes off the bottom it will come up a little and the hook will probably slip out. Turn it back down and hook it and pull/turn again. It will come out. No need to pull the pan or pump. Just be persistent as all hell.....

danke... will use some thin flat stock and make an L and apply a little lift.

thanks!

I've got a similar but opposite situation, any time I've pulled my distributor, my drive gear/shaft pops up with it and the only way to get it seated back in the pump is to turn the motor over, meaning I lose my timing marks. Anyone else ever have trouble with this? Is my shaft possibly worn out?
