318 swap

Hi everyone,
I have a 225 /6 in my 74 duster, and I was given a 318 by my uncle and he said it would marry up to the slant 6 tranny, and if not pushed hard it should be fine.

What do you guys think, I'm leaning towards looking for a tranny that is a for a 318. and also what about the rear end does it need to be changed as well.

You are leaning in the right direction about the tranny.......a /6 tranny will not mate up to a 318! The rear end in it now MIGHT be an 8 1/4 which would be fine.

Well is this a stick or automatic? The engine / bellhousing pattern is different...............

it is an automatic.

Nope, need to switch transmissions. Not a big deal. 318s came with the same transmission, however since the bellhousing's integral you need to switch transmissions.

You're going to need a small block specific trans. I guess it's depending on the rear you have if you should swap it or not.
