318 X block

I bought my Duster used, the previous owner had put a 318 in it. I was out taking things apart for a magnum head swap and noticed it's the "race block" with the big ol X cast on the front.

Should this mean anything to me other than its probably a pretty good block? I don't know much about fancy things like race blocks.

Exactly like that, only a lot dirtier and the Orange paint appears to possibly be slightly darker. Previous owner is a mopar guy, owns 2 hemi cars and a pretty hot Demon. I oughta just go ask him what he knows about it.

If its anything like this one youve got a nice engine!!

318 X Block Race Engine.....old school

I was going to put magnum heads on it and run it for another year or so until I can afford my hemi swap. After that it'll be for sale, I just need to put the money together to be able to put the 5.7 in the car, right now it's just hanging on the picker in the garage.

I'm not sure I'm selling it yet, and if I do it won't be for a little while.
Right now I believe it's a standard 318

They used the 318 main core box to cast the early Direct Connection "X" race blocks. Hence the "318" on the side and the X on the front. You should pull a head and snoop and measure. I'd bet it's not a 3.91" bore (318). And it might have 4bolt mains and really thick bore walls even with 4.10 bores.

I'll be pulling a head soon, I plan to put magnum heads on it. Just waiting on money to buy a cam and intake.
