340/4 speed GTS PS screaming

Hey guys,

Still new to the forum. I did a search, which I found nothing to this issue:

When I spool up the 340, the power steering pump starts getting very unhappy (very apparent noise), but settles down after a few seconds back at idle. Is that normal?

it's probably low on fluid or has air in the system...

Or the belt is loose and sliping.

Belts out of alignment, don't take much

I'm 90% sure the fluid is up, but it's old (car has been off the road since 2000), but I'll check again. Could old fluid cause this symptom?
I hadn't thought about alignment, but I'll eyeball it this AM and post.
