On a 1971 340 are the oil galley plugs behind the cam thrust plate plugged? Or do i just install the thrust plate with them unplugged?

everyone i have seen has been plugged....and i replace the plugs

You mean the oil galley plugs at the rear of the block?

They should be pluged or the oil pressure will be ZERO!

There not threaded, leave 'em alone. Oil is to poor out of them.

Either or. I've seen later ones with no plugs. The cam's thrust plate will seal them too.

They came with plugs in them for a reason. If your cam thrush plate is warped at all you would loose your oil pressure. Probably not likely but plugs are dirt cheap why take the chance.

I have a (9/70) 71 340 and it was pluged, But someone had been in there. I usualy deal with the older 340s and every one i have seen has been pluged. Didnt realize some came w/o plugs. Just goes to show there is more to learn every day.

the correct plugs come with freeze plug kit......

are the original owner?

someone else could have been in there....

I've owned quite a few untouched 340's up to 1972 and none came from the factory with plugs. I still agree that I would put them in while I was there. I was just reporting that they did not come with plugs originally. I also agree with 340sFastback about not driving them in too deep.
