Mine is missing? are they the same on the small blocks? could snatch one from a 68 318 I know.

Thanks!

69 and earlier is cast into the front cover. 70 and later? Maybe they were tack welded, and that is why yours is missing. The picture is from my 69 340 front cover

I don't know when they went to cast in timing marks; 64 and 65s for sure had a separate timing tab that was bolted to the 2 lower holes on the cover. Possibly 66 and 67s had them as well.

He was asking about a 340. There were no 340's before 68, to my knowledge.

I was referring to the 340 timing indicator, I assumed all other small blocks would be the same. You know what happens when you assume.

The '68 and earlier timing covers have a bolt on timing pointer.

'69 was a one year only cast into the passenger's side of the cover.

'70 and up cast into the driver's side.

I recently bought a timing pointer off an older 273 and bolted it to my '71 timing chain cover so I could see the timing marks with the '69 water pump installed. I believe any of the earlier timing pointers will work:

340 is out of a 70 Duster I'm told. I'll have to check the inlet, can't remember. Thanks for the pic Fastback! Might just have to get one of those.
