Question for you 340ers. I'm looking at picking up a rebuilt 340 10:1 plus pistons, x heads, mild cam. The question is how significant would HP increase be by adding 4" stroker and of course wilder .5 plus cam?
The way I see it, you'll be adding a ton of torque and it will have the feel of "GO NOW!" when you hit the pedal. All the torque it adds is a great fun factor.
I do not see a HP increase since stroke is more of a torque maker. It will help you go faster because of the added torque,. But the HP level will more likly remain around the same.
The 1 thing adding stroke does for sure is bring the peak HP level in quicker or sooner in the RPM range. The added stroke means the piston is traveling father covering more area. The piston will reach it's max speed quicker.
A larger cam is allways nice in the search for more power. Just have the head for it otherwise it will be a combo off balance. The cam will add the HP over the stroke.
If you are going to stroke, use a 360, unless it's for a limited racing class. Might as well take advantage of the extra cubes with the stroke. Will feel like a big block...sort of.
