360 clicikng valve train

There is a notch on the bottom of the rocker shaft at the end. Make sure the shaft is facing the correct direction. On the drivers side it is on the bottom front. On the passenger side it is on the bottom rear Seen many times the shafts were on wrong when they were assembled.

Key Steps for Mopar Rocker Arm Shaft Orientation

  1. Locate the Notches:
Identify the notch on each rocker arm shaft. There is no "left" or "right" shaft, but the notches are crucial for proper alignment [vid1, vid3].
  2. Position on the Left Head:
On the left cylinder head, position the rocker arm shaft so that the notch faces the front of the engine [vid1, vid2].
  3. Position on the Right Head:
On the right cylinder head, install the shaft so that the notch faces the rear of the engine [vid1, vid2].
  4. Angle Towards Engine Center:
Ensure both rocker arm shafts are angled to point toward the center line of the engine [vid1, vid2].
  5. Ensure Proper Ratios:
For shaft-style rocker arms, this is an integral part of the setup.
Why Orientation Matters
Proper rocker arm shaft orientation is critical for correct valve train function. If the shafts are misaligned, it can lead to several engine problems, including:

  • Improper valve operation: Valves may not open or close effectively.
  • Reduced engine performance: A malpositioned rocker arm can cause a loss of power.
  • Engine noises: You might hear ticking or clicking noises from the valves.
  • Stuck valves: In severe cases, misaligned rocker arms can cause valves to become stuck, affecting safe operation.

Gentleman attached photos are drivers side valve train. Can anybody see anything un ordinary if the pics aren't sufficient I will take more detailed pics
Sorry it took so long

I grabbed the rockers and some of them slide to the left and right a little bit 3 in the back and 1 up front

I was advised it is a wiped cam no oil to valve train running with valve cover off running 40 to 60lbs oil pressure
Pissed in Florida
See ya next year that's when it will fixed
Stay tuned
God Bless you all

Seems like poor top end oiling has been a fairly common theme lately.
I was thinking that things did look a little dry in your pics.

Hope you get it sorted out.

I had the car running with the valve cover off no oil was being pumped at all on the valve train zero .. with 40 to 60 lbs oil pressure and ticking unbelievable

Just to be clear…….. no oil being seen coming out of the rockers………and the cam being trashed… ….are not likely the same problem.

It would interesting to know if the other head is also not getting any oil.

I've been helping this FABO family member via phone and text. Due to recent medical procedures, I haven't been able to see him in person. We've determined he has an LA 360 (5 bolt valve covers) and a Lunati cam number 10200302 Street Master. AN old catalog says it's a .507/.507 235/235 flat tappet hydraulic. He says he's got 40-60 PSI oil, but none reaching the left bank. He does have adjustable rockers, as you can see in his pictures. He sent me a photo of the shaft end on the left front of the engine. I enclosed a picture. I don't see a notch on the end. I've asked him to remove the right valve cover and look for oiling. That's where we stand. He's pretty upset. He doesn't have many mechanical skills, but he's willing to learn. I might be able to get to him next weekend to eyeball it, but this week is full with radiation treatments. Any help from the FABO brain trust is appreciated. More to follow. Paul

I do have a set of quality shafts I bought from a member years ago. The have the banana grooves in them. I'll donate them to the cause if they're needed. I told him about Lunati no longer supplying SBM cams, so he's aware of that. Paul.

Praying for you brother. I will add you as an unspoken prayer request on our church list.

I don't see a notch there, either. This would be good if we could walk him through getting the shafts on correctly and that was all that's wrong.

Yeah, he's gotta have nanner grooves with those rockers.

Agreed. I had plans for my shafts, but I'm in a better place than he is. He wants to throw in the towel and sell the car because he's frustrated. It's a beautiful car with lots of good parts. If I can help him, he'll be Mopar for life! I'll ask him to post some pictures of the car.

My Crane ones that came with my Gold Race never had notches. Yiu had to know how to put them on. Not all shafts have notches.

That's true, but I'm pretty sure his are Mopar pieces. We'll find out. Thanks for the help.

I know it. But if they are solid bushed or unbushed, they SHOULD have nanner grooves.

Hey RRR, do those look like the 273 adjustable rockers? Just curious, and you have a ton of knowledge in your gourd.

Very kind of you Paul!

Any suggestions on repairs in the Daytona area. I don't have the mechanical ability. I don't want to pay 2K for labor camshaft timing chain and lifters.
I may have to swallow the pill again appreciate all the FABO help special shout out to 70Dart340
