360 power steering pump interference in 69 Cuda

Will be running into this issue as well. Heres what I modded on the slant 6 K for the V8 PS pump to clear. Made it like the stock V8 K frame. Still have an issue with the pump pressure side. That banjo bolt looks like the ticket.

Arent the older Saginaw pumps up to 77 a 5/8" SAE fitting? I wonder if I can remove the main fitting from an 87 fifth ave PS pump and if its internal threads are SAE, and just thread it into my pump so I can use the banjo.

1974 pump and brackets in 68-72 K frame. Line is gonna hit the left mount tower.

Option 1. do the banjo bolt and custom line thing.

Option 2. Cut and rebox the front of the LH mount tower so I can use a standard unmodded 1969 saginaw line.

I will look at both, but I'm thinking reboxing the front of the tower for the line to clear may be the best way for me to do this.

I mean the 68-69 big block A body K frames were waaaay butchered looking things. Notching and reboxing for a hose should be strong enough.

You should have a lot easier time with the motor out. I think modifying the motor mount would be the best thing, as I had to cut mine up anyway, even with the modified line. I had two hoses modified so I would have a spare. It would be better to be able to use a stock hose just in case you blow one.

All the 68-72 k frames don’t seem to be the same. A friend of mine did the same thing in a duster and he had more room than I did.

Mike69cuda I am thinking of getting a 69 A body V8 power steering hose. You mentioned it seems to fit better. Here is what i am dealing with with the 74 pump, pressure hose, pulley, and brackets. Also how I am going to mod the K member.

I think I figured out that all the Saginaw pressure outlets are in the same place for all years and styles. Only the cans, the return hose location and the pulley style are different. So it likely doesn’t matter what pump you use.

I will look at my spare hose & see what it is.

The fitting to the steering box is different as well. 67-72 it's a female fitting on the high pressure hose to the steering box. 73-76 it's a male fitting to the steering box.

Here is the spare of the hose I used. I forget whether it was a /6 or a 70-72 v8. I bought a crap load of hoses to try. I cut off the right angle and had a hydraulic shop put a fitting on it to match the banjo fitting.

Formulated a game plan on modding the K frame. Wont need to add any metal, except for welding wire. Pie cut, move back, reweld. Try to make it appear stock.

Going to send this steering chuck out to be rebuilt. It has a 90° pressure fitting on it. Is this normal for 67-72 A body power steering boxes?

Mine wasn’t right angle, seems like that would Jack up the connection. I don’t know what is normal.

I figured out why. The box was prev rebuilt and is a small sector shaft box, but the valve head is 73-up. I spun the 90° fitting off and theres a conical seat for an O ring, and the hose from the 1974 A body pump threaded right in. I'm guessing I need to spec a 1974 A body V8 hose, and mod the K frame. This thread has been great!! I hope I added some value to it.

Cut, hammer, and weld day today. Got 3/4" from the line to the mount tower. I looked at a lot of power steering hoses. The line on the pump is 1977 Dodge Aspen V8 with air pump.

Nice job. Mine sorta looks like it was done by a moron with a sawzall....oh wait, a little too close to home on that one....

For guys using the Borgeson box, I have a low profile hose kit for this purpose. Visit my site - Bergmanautocraft.com
