Are these the same as '73 340 heads? They have 360 cast into them. I want to have them shaved and use them on a 318. I already have them and want to use what I have. Budget ya know...

Not the same but in general, they are all very close to each other. For starters, the ports are slightly revised. Nothing special to yell about. The valves are 1.88 - 1.60.
Depending on the year of the head, they could have rotors on the springs, discard for performance usage.

Your going to have to cc the head to know where you stand for milling purposes. Match the heads cc amount to the 318 head amount at a min. OR if you have replaced the pistons, know where they stand in the cylinder and start doing the math for a decent ratio.

those casting are listed as 73 340 heads also...

I must be thinking of the later year heads then. Thanks 70aar

yes from the factory they would be 1.88 valves..

hi, the 587 is a good flowing head, better yet with sst intake 1.88 valves installed. also a 4 angle valve seat works wonders. just food for thought.
