I never have torn down any factory original engines with Federal Mogul bearings, but I have torn down a slew of original engines with Clevite bearings. I guess all of those were factory race engines.
is clevite 77 a good choice of bearing to use for my 1968 383 engine build? I am looking for close to origanal as possable. Do they offer a kit with rod and main bearings.? thanks

I was going to ask if mopar ever used clevite in the engines, because i am pretty sure my 68 383 has never been taken apart. When i tore her down it had clevite rods and mains. So maybe they are origanal? Thanks
Where did I say FM was a factory supplier? I said "factory type stuff". Factory type were not tri metal material on the rods that were narower for bigger fillets, or mains with more eccentricity or more than 1/2 groove.
Sealed Power/FM makes a 1/2 groove, low eccentricity main bearing which is closest to what came in factory engines that is $18/set less than the Clevite. The Sealed Power/FM tri-metal rods are $32/set less than Clevite. Clevite makes a good bearing - but in a stock type rebuild have features you're paying for that you don't need.
In the context of engine speeds, Clevite states their P series bearings are for "high rpms" and H series are for "mid to high rpms", but they don't quantify the statement. I would *assume* (here we go!) "high rpms" would be somewhere north of 5500, and "mid to high rpms" would be 4000-5500. Would that be a fair assertion?
Also, you mentioned the SP/FM MA type main bearings. When I read up on those, they're bi-metal aluminum/silicon bearings. I seem to recall some other debate about this in other threads as to whether or not these are suitable for anything resembling performance engines because of the lack of embedability...or, I might've misinterpreted the text elsewhere...
