400 Stroker Sounds Like a Bucket of Bolts

Watching him dyno stuff is like a toddler with a hand gun. Just does some really stupid stuff. After watching a few there is only so much stupid I can take from guys like him and unc.
Alright. I believe you. In this p'ticular vid I didn't see or hear him doing or saying anything profoundly and obviously stupid; maybe there's more of that in other vids. I mean, yeah, he ran the engine, but he wasn't the first to do so (otherwise how would cust know to bring it in because it sounded like that?), so as he said, the damage was already done. That engine wants a complete teardown, every piece inspected and measured, and reassembled properly.

But whatever dillweed misassembled it sure did put a real nice paint job on the fuel pump.

I have another good story pertaining to the title of this thread (Bucket of Bolts).

Yeah, me too: when I was an early-teenager, still some years away from being able to get a driving licence, I went and did my first-ever valve adjustment on my dad's almost-new '62 Lancer. Tens and twenties, careful-careful with feeler gauges. Started the engine and it sounded like a bucket o' bolts and was rocking back and forth on its mounts and chuffing and spluttering out the exhaust; OH ЅHIT, WHAT HAVE I DONE TO DAD'S NEW CAR‽

I'd been so busy carefully alternating the 0.020" and 0.010" feeler gauges that I'd lost track of there being two intakes right next to each other in the middle of the engine, is what I'd done. Half the intakes had double the intended clearance, and half the exhausts had half. A panicked phone call to Doug Dutra (no internet yet, and he answered even though I'd caught him at dinnertime, bless 'im) got that answer immediately. I went back and put them right, and all was well.

Actually he WAS the first to run it. He mentioned having to finish the install and do the initial fire up.

I am as redneck a "builder" as there is, BUT this Dick, er Nick is on a steady DECLINE mentally. I watched 90 seconds of that fn video....why only 90 seconds?? Within that 90 seconds he is deflecting ALL BLAME onto this supposedly unknown engine builder and mentions p2v contact, meanwhile this whole francofack wrinkled *** replaced intake, rockers and pushrods...
I'm pretty sure rockers and pushrods play a role in p2v contact.
Boobtube baglickers continue to amaze me.

I didn't notice it was a nick video and clicked on it... you're welcome for the accidental click Nick! Just say no!

Maybe the same guy that built this 340 with the pop ups in reversed did this engine. :)

Nothing a 318 stock lift cam, a .250 thick head gasket , and running on kerosene can't fix

It's definitely something that if you had hand crank the motor you would have felt the interference, the motor would not have spun over without hitting a very very tight spot and then being forced to rotate and then end up stuck in between cylinders, rotating back and forth would have shown this.
This was literally a test, and testament to the incompetence of not only the builder... but the tuner/nick

Anyone who's ever fucked up a timing belt install, knows.

Nick put the rockers on. Add to the "Toddler with a hand gun" point of view. Sheesh

What's next, the timing set was installed using the 4* advance keyway and the "0" mark lined up? (Seen that plenty on blow up teardowns)

Good Question!
If the lifters have not been pumped full yet, because there was no oil in the motor yet, they would probably not feel anything when installing the rocker assembly and setting the preload.

When I install a fresh Mopar SB/BB engine it always gets primed and engine turned over to feed the rockers.

Nick is just gonna bill the customer for fixing what the engine builder f'ed up....so he is making money....and getting clicks too ....

Nick or one of his employees, probably just primed and maybe only rotated the engine just enough, but not enough to feel anything or maybe just tapped the ignition switch. So really, something that could have easily been missed, but that could happen to anybody. There is the chance that those valves where also just tapping the pistons by a tiny bit and the problem would just worsen when the engine speed is increased.

If you prime a fresh engine bumping on a starter as a "professional", you aren't real sharp. JMO

Just watch a video of his about blowing up a newly built hemi. He was NOT the builder, it was brought to him because it was smoking on acceleration. Put it on the dyno, to see if his theory of no pvc baffle in the valve cover was the issue. Ran it three or four times trying to see what color the smoke was. Then made 2-3 pulls (increasing rpm limit) each time because it was still making power. Didnt seem too concerned with a “new” build smoking. No leak down test, no compression test. On 3 run it shattered a piston at 6200 rpm. After a deep dive into it to find out what happened……..it shattered a piston. I can’t watch because he just repeats everything 3-4 times. Says he has never blown up an engine on the dyno…..well except that hemi, a 360 and another hemi. (Because a piston was machined wrong) not his fault, but what was he hoping for with the shattered piston hemi? It’s SMOKING hard, STOP making dyno pulls! Two sleeves and a rotating assembly and some head work later……..
