440 Overheating 230 degrees

-

OMG,
I went back to the start of this thread to re-read.. Post # 2 is showing electric fan and the cookie sheet (block off shroud).

No wonder why it is overheating.

See Post #38.
I would say the fan in post 38 is moving 10 times the volume of air that your electric fan and flat shroud is attempting to move.

Here is a tight tolerance setup on a performance 440 running nice and cool. 86ed the electric fan and flat shroud and all is good now running an 18" mechanical blade.

And no shroud, running cool.

So ended up with a Cold Case MOP750A. Fit great, had to drill 2 of the mounting holes. Cleared the hood fine, great quality unit. Running a 15” 19118 flex fan and have about 1” clearance to the radiator. I went with a Autometer 4337 gauge with electric temp sender. Car would jump to 210 a few times at lights but pretty much stayed right at 195! I did order a 18” derale flex fan and a shorter spacer now seeing where I had some extra clearance. Hoping it helps even more.

I believe it was a combo mechanical sending unit/gauge and a wore out radiator issue. The old radiator is a Proform slim fit and would struggle keeping the 360LA cool. If I end up swapping cams this winter I will probably look at enlarging some water pump housing ports and a FlowKooler pump.
