I was in N.C. at a drag strip in 1993 and saw "Darn Dart" an early A body run a 10.50 et with a 273 stock bore and stroke, it was awesome..

I remember watching that car race for years at Mopars at the Rock. I don't know what ever happened with it, but boy did that car sound bad ***! Very impressive for a 273.

I wonder what they did for breathing. You need a certain air flow to get 450 HP. Maybe bigger valves, like with a 318 head, and notches in the block to clear.

That thing screams. I messed around on the Desktop Dyno and was able to get
450 horse with a solid roller cam 245*@ .050 .585 lift 106* c/l, 10.5/1 compression, ported heads, and 750 carb with a single plane manifold through open headers. Now before you beat me up about computer dyno programs this is all just for fun. It can be done. With a 7000 rpm power curve you better build a stout bottom end. tmm

Toolman,
What would the numbers be if you ran the old Mopar P4120148 or P369058 small block mushroom lifter cams in a highly modified 273 engine? The numbers on the 148 are 320-320-116* with a 102* centerline. Valve lift is 0.630". Power range is 4400-7000 RPM's.

The 589 cam is also 320-320-116* with a 110* centerline. Valve lift is also 0.630". The power range on this cam is 5200-7400 RPM's.

This is a 10.5 engine, highly ported heads, 750 carb, single plane, race headers.

sounds like music smallblocks are made to turn some good rpm

Here's another high reving Mopar motor on a dyno. Watch the rpm and power readings - with the volume up of course.
