Did you talk to him and ask why he wants to bore it? Is it wear, clearance, bore finish, a whim? If he can't tell you what he found and why you need to spend the cash I would doubt his ability. If he knows, he should be able to tell you why and "sell" you on it. Be stupid. Keep asking until you understand. If he gets attitudy and says "trust me" then maybe think about finding a better shop.

there's just alot of flustration going on.But your right about making him sell me on what he wants to do, he was suppost to give me a price on everthing but boring the block, it's been two weeks and no call yet so I'm already questioning his motive.
It doesnt matter how gifted the customer might be in terms of intelligence.. If the customer has reservations it should not be a stretch for a machinist to make a believer out of them. Just dont be afraid to ask. you're not belittling or bashing him. He's not doing this as a favor. He's billing you and you need to know what you're getting (and why) for the money.
