Don't use stock manifold gaskets for cast-iron heads. You need the thicker gasket for the intake..
 
If you wanted to run a LA mechanical fuel pump, Hughes sells the eccentric adaptor for about 26 bucks.

FWIW, I used an Edelbrock electric fuel pump designed for there carbs mounted next to the gas tank. Purchase the relay kit with the pump.

There are 3 head choices.

Iron replacements known as EQ or other similar heads.
Edelbrock Magnum heads
Trick Flow heads which offer the most flow and the BEST bang for the buck and they are EXTREMELY competitive in pricing. But they only take the (cheaper) LA intakes. No Magnum intakes.
