Can someone explain the throttle hookup on this thing? It's not just a regular cable going to the pedal, it's some sort of weird bar that twists. The linkage I had to the throttle was a kinda frankensteined one and now it's busted and I've NO IDEA how to put this thing together properly. For the moment, I've bent a cable through a short tube and wedged it between two bolts, but any more advice would be GREAT!

Thanks

you have a slant 6 throttle linkage. Most people pull them out and throw them away during a v8 swap. v8s use cables. If you post for one, you can get the whole thing fairly cheeeep. I have one, but won't remove it until I do the v8 swap in September.

When I put a V8 in my 63 dart I just used the linkage out of the car I got the motor from. Which was a 69 valiant.

If you need slant 6 throttle linkage and kickdown linkage I have it all for a 1964 pushbutton car that I just removed from a parts car. PM me . Jayson

Pics?

:worthles:

After looking at those pics you could just run a string and tie a washer to it inside the car for throttle. Looks like the wrong carb for the old solid linkage.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I've got going now (and had been going). It was a small length of throttle cable bolted to each end. Worked fine, till it snapped.

I've reattached it, but I'm worried it's going to snap again, because the cable kind of bends as it's activated, hence wearing it down.

I'd love to just actually SEE what the real setup is supposed to look like, because I can't fathom it from what's left of the setup.

However, if you say it's the wrong carb...

Any recommendations then on what to use in place of a throttle cable? Is there a thin, highly rated cable that sheers well that I could use in place?

Jayson,

Thanks for that, but I don't want to grab anything until I know what this is actually supposed to look like.

lets try and get him some pic's of what he needs rather than what it used to look like or go back to the old style carbyrater I'll see what I can git him some pics of, I have a ton of the parts and old style carbraters ( i love spell wreck version 5.0 )
Jayson,

Thanks for that, but I don't want to grab anything until I know what this is actually supposed to look like.

Here is a bad pic taken in the dark that should help you find the right carb.

That is TREMENDOUSLY helpful. Now I see what the linkage is supposed to look like. Whoever modded this created a weird bracket to support the rod and added a clip for the wire (quite clever actually).

Also explains why my mpg is such crap.

Think what I'm gonna do is rig this thing up tight for the time being the way it is, but commence a carb hunt.

Thank you everyone for your help. I'm a newbie, and couldn't have got half as far with this car without this board.

GRAZIE!

There is no 2bbl carb for a linkage setup. You'll need to convert to a cable to do it right. The best way is to use the '64-6 A-body V8 accelerator pedal assembly and a late '70's Super Six cable and bracket setup for the engine end.
