still looking for a (within pickup distance) A body pushbutton SB 904. I did find a longtailshaft 727 cable job. my question is what would I have to do to use it in the 64 dart. is th e 727 is wider? and the longer tailshaft would cause what problem with the tunnel????

ITs not the tailshaft, its the girth of the bell at the body seam at the start of the tunnel. You can easily flatten the pinch weld at the tunnel, but you still have a physically larger tranny in there so everything else is bit tighter. It fits but its just too much tranny for that light car, IMHO. Larger trans takes more power to run too.

I have decided to just get a 904 and forget the 727 longtailshaft B body SB cable operated job. ( wow, that's a mouth full!?)...

Im looking to do the same thing. I have a 64 GT with a /6, pushbutton trans. the 6 has some issues that i would rather not spend $$ on so I'd like to pick up a 318 locally and use that. Can I use the original trans from the /6?

sorry if this question seems simple to those of you with experience, this is my first Dodge (all Chevelle til this point)

Actually, Id like to ask those with experience working with Dodge A-Bodies to offer me some advice and give me some input as to what will ands what WILL NOT work as i move forward..(maybe I should start my own thread...)
thanks none the less..

your trans wont work, the bellhousing pattern is different. you either need a 64 or earlier smallblock trans, or a post 64 small block trans and abandon the pushbuttons and get a floor shifter

Karl,
You can find all the answers here if you search. If you do find a SB push-button tranny, you will need an adapter ring to fit the trq conv snout tight in the crankshaft, if the 318 is 1968+ (or such, I forget). Many posts.
