Have a 65 barracuda with a 273, looking to put headers on. I see that there are not many options for that year, wondering what the difference is between 65 and 66 headers
64-66 should be the same. i have a 66 myself and want to find some also. A member here sold some on ebay a while back i bid on but was outbid, new ones seem better part of a grand for a nice set.
Are the spitfire headers still available?I currently have massaged Dakota manifolds on mine. I also have a set of Laysons ( spitfire ) headers for sale in the "sale" section.
I have changed direction on my build.
Harold F'd everyone in line past Cosgig and then sold out to Layson. Damn shame but the design is so primative that anyone could make them with a few stock bends and a chop saw. you see other motors stainless headers from china for $149 on Ebay, why cant someone get Mr. Fongs slaves to weld up some Harolds with the mandatory 1 tiny design change (how about blending that right angle dump into the shared runner?) so they can be sold here without a copyright infringement? (Like that makes a hill of rice difference here...) My SC400 has a similar factory header design with a nasty right angle dump and everyone whoe puts aftermarket headers on these 1UZFE's raves about the breathing difference, being a 4-valve design, they can really rap hard.
Word was that at the end of Harolds run of them, some people had waited over a year!! I was also on the list when Doug Thorley first decided to start remaking the Ddart headers! They started out a pretty steep $600, and after about a year the price went from $900, to $1200, and I finally bailed about that time!! You just couldn't get anything but manifolds back then!!
Has anyone out there actually installed Laysons on a 273 (63 - 66 chassis) with 4-sp, and no PS or PB? Are current Laysons shortys? Anyone have pics?Spitfires are no longer being produced by Harold, but Laysons does have the design and sells the same headers! They really shot up in price tho from the $188 shipped that Harold was selling them for! If I'm not mistaken, they are close to $500 now! I have been running one of the first sets that Harold ever made on my car since about 2001, and they do the job just fine! I think I may be the only one who ever got their headers from harold in less than a week! He was using my track kittens car for a test bed, and she was the one who "turned me on" to them, so to speak!!!
