Hey guys was offered a 67 318 and was wondering what the static compression might be for an engine. It is my understanding that I think all 67 318s got the close chambered heads correct? I was thinking in the neighborhood of 8.5.1 to 8.8.1 maybe?

Have you actually looked at the engine? Might be a Poly, incorrectly called a "wide block."

Haven't looked at yet but, I will look to see since it is local. From what I understand though it is a 318 LA engine from a 67 Coronet. Poly engine was a Canadian thing that year.

They all got the closed chambered heads until the 4bbl. option in the late 70's and the ratio is normally higher than the lowly 8.5-1. 8.8 or better was advertised.

My understanding is that all 1st 318s got 273 heads which were closed chambered and better than the 302s.

i think 67 318 all had forged cranks and floating piston pins . I had a set of 67 318 heads a few years back and they were closed chambered. I sold them on flee bay dirt cheap. i wish i kept them now lol.

67 was the first year for the LA 318, not a poly. Compression ratio was advertised as 9.2 to 1, should have closed chambers. They were open chambers from 68 till the 302 heads in the late 80's

Thanks guys. I hope to be looking at it this week hopefully once the transmission issue was sorted out.

Agree, but I have seen some early '67's that came with a poly.....especially trucks.

It is a 67 LA from a 67 Coronet, the casting date 11-66. Small port 920 heads.
