67 Dart Post Project

Got a lot done today. The passenger side quarter is completely patched and stripped. The trunk lid and rear filler panel are also stripped. I decided to remove the D A R T from the rear quarters along with the D O D G E from the trunk. I will be selling the letters sometime soon. I ordered a patch panel to replace the damaged area on the drivers quarter panel. Here's some pics. I think she looks a whole lot better naked then with all that old crappy paint.

Look Mom, no rails! Sure cleans up the look of the car. Was hesitant to cut them off but once the body is finished I'll be glad that I did.

Finished shaving the drip rail off the driver's side. Stripped the paint off the roof and got a fresh coat of etching primer on all the bare metal. It felt great to see the fresh primer on her.

Rebuilt the hinges on both doors and bolted on the passenger door that I got from azmopar. Not sure how long I can keep up this pace. It's wearing me out. Lol

What did you use to shave off the drip rails? Did you have to do any weld once you cut them off?

And great looking project!

I used a cutoff wheel on an angle grinder to cut them off and grind them flush. Then I tack welded the seam every half inch or so. I would recommend only cutting off about 6" at a time or the roof may begin to separate from the door jamb.

Well, I finished realigning the doors after the hinge rebuild and decided that the pink paint had to go!! So I went ahead and stripped the paint off of both doors. I threw in a picture of the aircraft stripper at work for those who haven't seen how well this stuff works. It burns skin instantly on contact. Quite possibly the most wicked substance I've messed with.

Wow nice work.....Is that stripper avail for over the counter purchase or do you have to be special to get some???
Thanks

It must have been that rubber mat that caused damage to your car. Mines a California 67Valiant with a rubber mat:angry7:

Starting to get things straightened out. Luckily I found an experienced car painter to help get it nice and straight.

you know i'm diggin the post. you are doing a great job. keep it up. save them posts.

Very productive day today!! Shaved the passengers door handle and the radio antenna. Welded up all the trim and emblem holes in the hood. My body guy put all the rough filler on the passengers side and hood and primed it black. The primer was still wet when I took the pictures so it's a little blotchy. I think it looks pretty badass in black.

Welded up the drivers door and cut out the damaged area on the driver's quarter. I put up a want ad for the driver's side striker post and some surrounding metal. One of the previous owners hacked the hell out of mine for some reason.
