I am building a 68 hemi dart race car and I live in north carolina. the car does no need to run faster than 6.0 in the 1/8. 4sp cal tracks ford 9 inch in place on car weight 3100 who would you guys advise to build engine. would it be best to modify k frame or buy tubular K frame if so what brand

thanks for the help

Do you have a motor now or building one from scratch.

building from scratch yes i agree Greg I believe is his name Yes I have purchased some items from him and He advised to get some one local to build incase there is a problem arizona is a little far from nc

Try Jim Arruzza I think that's the spelling, he is in Trinity. My engine is KT engines in Concord right now and Ken knows what he is doing but not a Hemi specialist. I am thinking of buying a set of heads from Jim right now. Jim just does Hemi's been building them for 20 years.

did you just order seat brackets and i think a window kit? along with other knick knacks?

Hey 805 since were on the topic of Hemi's what oil pan for the Hemi in A body.

In my opinion the alter k will give you the most room for motor/headers, I will be putting my motor in with motor plate for now, I have bb k member with mounts cut out of it to make room for old motor. I am going thru all the same stuff you are right now but in a 69 cuda.

look up todd marshperformance in lexington nc

its really easy to get these hemi's to fit if to do just a couple of things...

do the SS trick and put 1/2" spacers in between the frame and k

cut the passenger side shock tower

TTI just released new headers for Hemi A-bodies. No paying to have custom sets made any more !!

Talk to Tim at http://www.forhemisonly.com/index.html for a Hemi. When I get to that stage he will be building my motor. Don't wate your money buying seat brackets, ask around and you will find someone who has the dimenssions for them. There is a member here that might still have a few sets. If you are not to concerned with it being "correct" it is not that big of a deal to put one together.

TTI is offering headers. That is the good news, however if you want big performance from your Hemi and you used raised port heads (Indy 426-1R or better OR any of the hot Stage V heads i.e. STAGE V MILLENIUM), you'll need to run an Alterkation front end to get the TTI Headers to fit.

That is the problem I have now. Got a great deal on a set of big flow raised port heads, but now need:

1 - Custom made headers = $$$
Or
2 - An Alterkation front end + TTI headers $$$$ + $$

Does anybody have other info or solutions?

How about placing a group order with AlterK? Is that an option? Does Bill ever give discounts? If yes, count me in for one : )

Greg's definitely "THE MAN". Depending on your budget, building & driving experience a simple, late70s/early 80s type S/S car would fit your requirements. As for me, I'd be calling RayBarton, but there are plenty of other good Hemi specialists near you. As for oil pans, my opinion is use one with a rear sump & swinging pick-up. It complicates matters a little but is best for the motor (again, my opinion) in the long run....

yea kinda seems like were in our own corner of the world here in AZ huh hemi? lol...

and we do the same thing with our 440 source pans... add the swinging external pick up and they are good to go...

71HemiGTX I hope I haven't taken over your thread just in the same situation, do you have any pics of your car i would love to see what you have going on. Are you a back halve car, what kind of rear suspension are you running. Also what class are you planning on running.

not yet right now trying to get an idea if modifying a k frame or buy one would be better because i have no welding skills or a mock up block to get things to fit right. the car is not going to be perfect but I dont want it to look like the only tool that i have is a hatchet

hey thats ok love to see what people are thinking. car is a little rough right now but that is the way i bought it i will try and get a picture up soon. stock frame is connected purchased leaf spring kit frome greg at ss and afx. there is a guy thrirty minutes from house that works at petty enterprises that built a 9 inch rear with moser axles leaf springs are caltracks so are ajustable shocks willwood brake front and back. the car has 12 second 340 with 8 passes on it right now hope to be selling soon. i will be racing with classic gear jammers in nc all motor no nitrious no electronics must be 4sp

With no welding skills, I'd buy a K-member unless you know someone that knows how to lighten them. It's not tough, but you need to insure it doesn't warp while welding inorder to insure the holes line-up to the frame rails.
You'll get plenty of opinions as to how the frame & rollar/cage should be tied together. All I'll say about that, is that if you look at "My Nightmare" in the "Member's Restorations" section, you'll see how mine & "Injunkie"'s cars were done. The 9in shouldn't be a problem, however I'd go with at least 31-spline, preferably more, but once you hit 40-spline things get kinda specialized.
Many HemiDart parts can be home-made or adapted from existing stuff as these cars were cobbled together ASAP from Mopar. I'd suggest getting the authentication guide to help you along......

71 sounds like you have good plan being laid out you certainly have plenty of talented people around in that part of the country to help make it come to pass. I made a decision on my motor today will be ordering Stage 5 heads should help me make it a little more street able with today's gas. If you are looking for some motor parts I may have some stuff for sale.
