Hi folks,I've been saving my big shoe salemans money (as well as fishing the spare change out of the malls fountain everyday) and am looking to buy a 1970-1972 Duster for a daily driver.

I've come across a couple nice ones locally with good bodies (with cars as with women, you pay more for a nice body, the difference is the car wont gain 50 pounds and lay around watching Oprah after you give it a home),but I digress, one has a slant six with an automatic, the other a 318 with an automatic.I thought I'd join this site and get some expert opinions on the six vs. the v8.

I know the slant sixes durabilty is legendary, like the four touchdowns I scored in one game, but can these sixes keep up with todays 65-75 mph freeway traffic without the driver becoming a road rage statistic, and how are they on gas vs. the 318? I've heard 318's with a 727 can get 20 mpg on the highway.

Anyway,I'd appreciate any constructive input.gotta go now,a fat woman has just waddled into the store and I'm going to need to herd her in the direction of the local blacksmith. God,how I love my life!

..............Hey AALLLLLL,welcome to the site......i'm a V8 man myself, but there is a lot of sixers here also............pick the best body,.........is it a red head................kim....

The one with the slant six is a Gold Duster, all the paints original and there's no rust, expect some surface rust where the vinyl top was removed.

I was leaning torwards the V8 Duster, but the gold duster is super straight, not a dent in it,and I was wondering how the slant would be for a daily driver.

yes..the very best body for sure.
the 225 slant in my duster ran suprisingly strong...wondering if i should have left it as it was.

Well what do you plan to do with it later? If it will always be a daily go with the six I had a few and no complaints if you eventually are going to go v8 get the 318 mpg is about the same if it has the right intake and carb

X2, if your plans are to push it around the block then get the cheapest one,

if it is a daily driver -- then best sheetmetal by far!!

mpg for 225 v 318 is fairly close & if both are tuned properly it is a wash.

go with the one you like best-- your women hater club will appreciate that!! Lawrence

Welcome, nice name(lol!). If you get tired of the Jiggly Room,we will see you aroundLMAO!:glasses7:

Even properly tuned, we found the /6 to be a pig on gas...the 318 in my 2wd RAM gave me 30s... but engines are lie motorcycles...you buy a small cc and the first thing you are doing is upgrading..I'm for the VS.

The 225 is just fine at Hwy. speeds. A numerically low a axle ratio will help that.

Thanks for the input. I wonder what the justification was for the slant 6 then if it wasn't really any better than a 318 on gas.
