Suggestions 71 340 duster daily driver - alternator? distributor?

I am looking for overkill but not diamond encrusted products........ The car needs to not break down basically. It will be driven a lot and whatever I choose needs to be very dependable.

Any suggestions for the alternator and the distributor? Where to buy easy and quick at a fair price........

Thanks - JB

Do you care about originiality?

If not, get a Denso style alternator from a Late 80's early 90's Toyota PU. Will have more output at idle than the stock OEM alternator and about 70 amps total. Do a wire around and call it good!

Distributor, a mopar electronic would work OK. I'd rework the advance to get better idle and low rpm performance. They are pretty reliable pieces.

I can hook you up with a rebuilt, recurved (Mr Gasket springs) and total timing limited (4 seconds flat plate) OEM distributor and a full HEI ignition from www.classichei.com for right at 300 shipped.
All pre assembled and ready drop in complete 50,000 volt ignition system minus cap and rotor.

You want reliable, that's it.

Plus if you ever do need to replace anything it is in stock everywhere.

I have no clue what you said because the vision of that woman bending over is burned into my brain now!

You can buy a $45 HEI distributor from Skip White on ebay. Put another in the trunk for extreme reliability. A normal square-back Mopar alternator should keep your battery charged fine, which is all an alternator need do. Easy to get (thru 1980's), cheap, and reliable. A Denso is smaller, neater looking, and affordable once you pay for the custom brackets.

A stock alternator should be fine..as for ignition i prefer msd been running one for several years trouble free..if you run a mopar ignition make sure you carry spare parts in the trunk your going to need them..
