I got this 70 Dart 340 4 speed car last summer in a trade deal. This winter i decided to put 14x7 wheels on the back and while I was taking off the original wheels noticed that the car needed new exhaust and some floor work. I moved the 72 Demon that I'm restoring off of the 2 post and got to work on the Dart. 1st was to remove the old exhaust (straight out of the 80's cherry bomb glass packs and all)! Then it was time to tackle the flash rust covering the bottom side of the floor. (Dirt or gravel floored buildings can really cause floor rust issues) I wire wheeled all the surface rust where I could reach, then broke out the manual wire brush. It will take me weeks to dust off the rust dust that settled over everything in my shop.

I installed a TTI 2.5" kit (with help from my Bro in Law). The kit fit nice, but it is really tight on both sides below the manifolds. That being said, neither side hits anywhere.

While it was on the hoist, I decided to build a 3rd member with 2.94's with a new suregrip from Dr Diff, and installed Green bearings on the axles. Not sure how I'll like the gear ratio, I'll find out on Wednesday during the local cruise night.

Keep us posted on the gear selection. I'd like to build a spare pumpkin with some highway gears. Which Green bearings did you use? The ones with the snap ring bolt right in but beware the other style you need to remove the thrust blocks.

I'll update what I think of the new gear ratio on Thursday. The snap rings are built into the Green bearing. I bought them with a sure grip carrier and carrier bearings from Dr. Diff.

That looks great. TTI is probably the best and I like that you can order head pipes for different manifolds. The duals on my 70 Swinger are the original single set up cut and turned into duals by the previous owner. I am starting to hear a leak and when I replaced the mufflers a few years ago there wasn't much for solid pipes to clamp or weld to. I am due.

I used their 2 1/2" head pipes, bought a pair of tailpipes from classified here then did a summit 2 1/2" x-pipe to resonators and Quiet flow mufflers.
Your system looks great! Never got a good pic of mine.

Well... I went to put the oil filter back on and it didn't fit. I loosened the 90° adapter and rotated it a bit and the filter fit. Guess what happened when I fired it up to hear how it sounds! If you guessed that the adapter leaked at the block, you win. I pulled the adapter off, of course I had to loosen the exhaust I just put on, and the gasket around the outer edge of the adapter and the cork gasket around the bolt were as hard as a rock. Luckily my Bro in Law had some gaskets from past rebuilds and let me have them to replace mine. It took about 30 minutes to scrape the adapter gasket off the block, but I got it all cleaned up, put back together and it didn't leak. I'm going to take it out for the local cruise night Wednesday and check on the rearend rebuild and see how I like the 2.94 gears.

Thanks for that info. I'll leave my filter on (if I can) when I try to fit the new exhaust.

Well... the 2.94 gears may take some time to get used to. They are great going down the highway at 65mph, but they also make taking off from a stop a bit challenging.

My wife and I took the Dart out for a cruise yesterday, I didn't let rain stop me, and put 150 miles on it. I think the 2.94's are going to stay!
