71/4 in a V8

-
Yup. 318 only, not 340/360. Some teeners came with heavier rears, but lots came with 7.25s. Just stripped a '73 with factory 318/904/7.25.

Also could be in 67 and later B body cars with 273 and 318.

...until the 8 1/4, which could also be found behind 400-2 barrel cars!

The 904 was a default automatic behind a 318 in 1970 (I own 3 that came from the factory that way) and the 7 1/4 was the default rear end. You had to order an 8 3/4 to get one - only one of my three came that way. I tore up my original 7 1/4 with a 318 2 barrel that was completely stock. The car was only 5 years old and had about 60,000 miles on it (past the 5/50 warranty).

Alert for those seeking A body 8 3/4 rears - 1972 was the last year for this rear and Chrysler put them in lots of A-bodies to clear the way for the 8 1/4 replacement. I have found several mundane 72 Darts with those rear ends - 4 doors with slant sixes even. Always look under every junk 72 a-body, no matter how equipped, you might get a surprise!
