I have a new project. 71 Dart Swinger with a 318, ps, and factory A/C. Has not run since 1989. Tearing engine down 1st. Only 85k and unmolested. What is the largest cam I can run with factory heads and springs that will give me most bang for the buck. Going to keep pistons stock and factory 2 barrel intake with a 500 cfm Holley Street Avenger 2 barrel. I will also be adding headers with dual exhaust.

The stock cam that's in it. Anything different requires matching springs.

This is the cam we put in my 318 when we rebuilt it in high school. I was told this was the biggest cam you could run without putting a stall in it. If I had known I’d blow the tranny up a week later I would have gone bigger . It’s been a good cam and has done well with the mild rebuild as well as when I eventually put closed chamber heads with bigger valves in it. I suspect it would be fine for yours but like Rusty rat rod said you gotta have matching springs.

No you don’t have to pay to upload pics. Maybe just a current system issue. I run into same problem on another forum

Nope your aloud just need to find the paper clip, might be harder on a phone

So got the 318 torn down but had many, many overheats. Hole clear thru cyl 1 and 5. Rest of them bluing in the same locations. Decided sleeving was not going to be cost effective. Found a Dec 71 block that was to be rebuilt but builder had issues with that one and without telling me, rebuilt and sent me a July 74 long block. I immediately called them out and they are trying to find a late 70 or any year 71 to build and swap the 74 out. My question is, are there any differences in 70/71 to 74 blocks. Not sure if I should keep this one if they can't find a replacement. Thoughts?

Cylinder hole picture and new engine (1974) picture. Also rebuilt the front suspension while waiting for engine. I still cannot get pictures to load?

The block itself I believe is the same. Internals would be different as the compression dropped in 1972. Not sure other differences. Sorry you’re still having issues with pics.
