You really should buy yourself a factory shop manual, and you can get them on CD
There are differences between each year, but some of your questions might be answered, do you have the 72 manual?

(The 71 service manual posted on this link has an incomplete electrical section, only covering "body wiring", and the 71 wiring pdf is an aftermarket diagram)
The 70 Dart/ Charger manual has some of the underdash harness layout pictured, and the 72 manual does not seem to contain this
(The difference seems to be that some manuals cover the "body" and the 72 manual is "chassis")
My old paper (original) 70 manual has the cover missing, but it seems to cover both, although it seems to be missing some options (late model year offerings?) here and there
