im going to take the ol-stock rearend out from under the swinger. Just curious how many mods am i looking at doing this.. Or would it be easier to just get one custom built to my specs.. Im also probably going to relocate the springs when I tackle this chore... Any suggestions or comments will be appreciated. Thanks guys this is the best site on the web

Need some info.......

What rear do you have? 7.25",8.25",8.75"
What motor? /6, small block, big block
What are your plans with the car ? Daily driver, Street car, Street/Strip,
Strip only.

When I swapped the 7 1/4 out of my 66 Dart,I started with a bare 8 3/4 housing from a 72 Duster. Then Moser bbp axels, new Auburn sure-grip,.489 c.section,3.91 rears all brake hardware new.If I had to do it again,I,m just buying a new rear complete from Moser for $1700.Don,t forget bigger shock plates.(only if your swapping out 7 1/4 or 8 1/4??)

bludart I was thinking the same thing.. By the time I get all the parts and spend the time maybe it would be cheaper to buy one. The car is all stock right now w/ 318 and a 8 1/4" if im thinking right. I have all the info wrote down somewhere... The car has been on the back burner for a while, Im just now getting back to her. She is going to be strictly a toy Im thinking about pulling the motor, trans, rear end and going back with something a lil bigger. (faster) Im planning on rebuilding the engine back to stock specs and keeping incase I wanna go back original.

Depends on how BIG your gonna go?The 8 1/4 can only handle so much HP.Ask me how I know! Picture 010.jpgLaunching 452hp with a 4 speed!

Are you sure you have a 8 1/4". To my knowledge, they didnt come out in A-bodys untill 1973.

My 71 swinger 318 904 was a 7.25 rear.

There were a couple decent looking built units for sale on MOparts this month.

Aside from that, your best bet is to buy a good stock A body housing and fill it with good parts.

Don't do what I did and pay premium cash for a good complete unit and then end up swapping out EVERYTHING.

Also O'reillys has all the brake parts for the BBP swap (except backing plates), so don't go paying premium "Mopar Shop" prices or Ebay seller shipping for that crap.

LOL maybe it is a 7 1/4 ... Im offshore right now and all the info is at the house. I think I might have the fender tag wrote down somewhere... Guess I need to hunt down the info while Im out here. Sorry for misleading anyone just hunting for some info... This site makes life a little easier and helps on laying a plan out. Thanks 4 all the input guys..

I just recently stripped a 73 Dart Swinmger 318,904 with a 7 1/4,your car might have had the rear swapped at some time? When you get time, check to see what rear you have first? You never know what you could have?
