Can I swap a 727 out of a 74 charger with a into my duster? the engines are both 318.

Is this a 727 to a 727 swap or a 904 to a 727 swap.

IF it is a 727 to 727 swap, no problem.

IF it is a 904 to a 727 swap, the only issue to face is a shorter drive shaft. The OE drive shaft can be shortened.

*I think there may be a yoke issue.*

Thanks!
I forgot to mention before that i have a 904 in the duster now. I wouldnt mind shortening the drive shaft to switch the two. anybody no advantages/disadvantages of 904vs 727 I have to rebuild the 904 in the car now if i keep it the 727 I have is already been rebuilt. also if anyone else knows about the yoke problem rumble mentioned thanks :)

The 727 is capable of dealing with more power as its a little more stout. Many racers seem to be using the 904 as it takes less horse power to spin it and can handle a good deal of horse power if correctly built.

I wouldn't swap it.

my 2 cents... Find a core 904 trans, Spend the money you'd have to buying a shorter driveshaft on a $100-120 rebuild kit/service manual from northern auto/transtar, and build the 904. A well built 904 can handle most any 318 on the planet and takes less hp to drive than the 727.

You have a 727 convertor as well?

You get to learn how to rebuild a 904 trans which may come in handy later.
