73 axle in a 72

Hey all. My buddy just got a 73 rear end to put in his 72 duster, but when he had his mechanic put it in, the mechanic said it was too wide. Are the rears of 73 dusters really wider than 72 dusters, or is the mechanic out of his mind

All A-body rear axles are compatible (track width and spring perch placement) with all A-bodies.

The '73 diff must not be from an A-body. If it was, it would be a straight swap.

Ya but i sold him the rear end, my 73 duster was as stock as it gets when it came to me parting it out

Maybe the prior owner put in a B-body axle to fix that rear wheel inset?

Didnt seem like it, cuz it was perfectly fine when it was in mine

A body perches 43" center to center

Any other measurement and it's not an A body.
