'73 duster build

Exhaust is done and has really low rumble and shrieks when full throttle! We’ll see how long I can stand it down the road cruising. I’m getting older and loudness is definitely fading away from my interest. Haha. Don’t mind the blue paint, only color of high temp paint I had left. I like to coat the welds to keep them rusting as long as I can.

Getting the hood fitted and attaching the hemi hood scoop!! The blue around the windshield is not the color I’m painting it, I cleaned the sill and figured I better paint it before windshield goes in and that’s the only blue I had. Got new trim clips installed as well. Hood scoop is going pretty smooth. A lot of measurements to square it up and trying to get it to sit tight flush against the hood. Might have to put some rubber u channel or something along the bottom like a seal to make it tight. Decided to change from the intimidator to the King (43). Any nascar fans around? Heard dodge was coming back to truck series!

Friday night, cornhuskers got whooped by the gophers . I’m originally a Nebraska kid. But as I was watching the horrible defeat, I got a bunch of tiny things accomplished. Market lights, new side mirror, passenger seat installed, floor plugs installed, new windshield wiper bushing, vent line for fuel tank (I went with a safety roll over vent type), new ignition switch and door locks and finally a trunk lock so I don’t have to open it with a screwdriver. And now I have a key set! Still waiting for the windshield guy to call me back! Would love to get some road miles before snow falls.

Hood scoop on painted! Good from a far but far from good. KrylonKustoms! Haha. Windshield on order and currently working on driver side taillight opening. Previous owner had a horrible fiberglass repair, I cut the corner out of the parts car so let some body work begin.

Rear panel repair is coming along nicely. Getting metal welded in and then some body filler and we’ll be good to go! Also got the windshield installed, local glass guy, not me and I’ve been driving it around! That single chamber exhaust is just too loud. I ordered different mufflers to try. Hopefully a little more manageable. Went to try a good brake test today and heard a big pop in the front, the right front strut bar popped out of the lower control arm. The bolt is missing along with most of the threads, so some QA1 adjustable bars are on order along with new steering components! A lot of people giving me thumbs up and people at gas stations coming to talk when they see it. A lot of, I had one of these high school and I love hearing old stories about old cars.

build update, got adjustable strut rods in and got it aligned! my own alignment with tape measures and caster/camber gauge from speedway. been driving it to work quite a few times and doing simple highway runs as a shake down. what i've learned, there's ZERO interior with single chamber exhaust. its loud!! alot of thumbs up and fists pumps from people driving around and people stopping to talk at the gas pump. i'm currently working on interior pieces. the donor car had alot of the plastics that i'm just going to repaint. gonna have to order a carpet, and for door cards, well...i decided to try something. some might hate, some might love it, i think its definitely going to be unique. i had some poncho blankets lying around and 1 old door card to use a template to make the driver side out of cardboard.

i'm excited to see them in the car.

still chasing some electrical gremlins that i think are in the fuse block. i'm probably going to replace the glass fuses with a spade fuse block, the old one is pretty crusty/corroded and will help with further diagnosis, currently no dash lights. started with no brake lights, but now i have brake lights and no dash lights. i'll get it figured out. i'll keep posting as i get more done/built and finished.

Just some more pics of the rear corner repair, still needs body filler but good enough for now. And working on hood scoop supports, or jail bars. Got 1 bar and like it, any opinions on 2 more for a total of 3?? I have chrome tubing that goes over the all thread, just didn’t want unbolt the scoop just yet.

i'd go for 3, it's surprising how much force there will be trying to pull that big scoop off at any kind of speed. to see what i mean, drive along at 50mph and poke your 'cupped' hand out of the window. it's surprising how much effort's needed to keep it from going back.
neil.
